What weather/foliage to expect in September in Maine??

My husband and I are looking at a Radisson cruise for September, 2005 from New York to Montreal (stops in Bar Harbor Maine). This is a 9 night cruise which seems perfect!

I believe the best fall foliage comes a couple of weeks later but those cruise dates are only 7 nights. We're trying to decide if it's worth forgoing 2 extra nights on the cruise to go at the end of September or beginning of October.(guess it will just be getting colder as well)

What weather and foliage could we expect to see around September 9th? Is it worth it to wait another 3-4 weeks?? I live in CA and have never visited the New England states. Thank you.

The beginning of Sept. is frequently some of the best weather of the year. No foliage however. If you are thinking of swimming, forget it. I have lived here all my life and only swim when the temp reaches at least 90. Even then it is a challenge.

I Know this is only one year example..Last week of Sept. and first week of Oct. was great for foliage
in Vermont, New H and Maine. One day it rained in Vermont but the rest of the days were great.
Good luck

Hi,
Have to agree with shaz60. Weather usually good but foliage not at it`s best till around mid Oct. I was in Maine last fall around mid Oct. and foliage was just coming to it`s best.
Of course it differs each year so just keep an eye on weather reports.
Some sites that may help ,

Good luck!

petlover,
I'm sorry to change the subject on this post but I'm new to doing this and don't know how to contact you. Will you please go back to my post in Cruises: Seven Seas Navigator and see my new question on the cruise. You give such great advice I think you can help me there!
Thanks!
