Hi - I will be in Maui and Kauai this May for my honeymoon. We are going to make our car rental reservations soon and we're thinking of getting a convertible for fun, but then we're worried if we do the road to hana, we might want something a little more sturdy (like a jeep) - any thoughts? Thanks!
what type of car?

We were in Maui in april and rented a Jeep...then traded it in 12 hours later for a convertible. The Jeep was dirty, noisy, a very rough ride, and a pain to take the top off and put back on. The Road to Hana doesn't require a sturdy car -- it requires a sturdy stomach thank to all the curves.
We rented a convertible in Maui. It was wonderful--candy apple red Mustang.
I rented a convertable once on Kauai and it was so annoying because of the frequent rainshowers-we'd put the top down, it would start to rain, we'd stop and put it back up, rain would stop, etc etc. This went on all week. But there's no denying that when it wasn't raining, they are fun. I can't imagine that it wouldn't be "sturdy" enough for the road to Hana (I guess I don't really get the comment).
Jeeps are very uncomfortable, if you've never ridden in one.
Honestly, most of my trips I just rent an econo-car, and that is just fine. I don't do most of my sightseeing from the car (if I was physically handicapped or just older and having a hard time getting around it might be different), so I don't miss anything by not having a convertable.
