What to wear in Sonoma in mid-August?
Hi everyone,
I'm traveling to Sonoma in mid-August and I'm not sure what to wear - we will of course be visiting wineries and some nice restaurants. What's the weather like that time of year? Is it a shorts and tank top kind of place and time or is it a little more fashionable? I just don't know. Any help would be appreciated?

For nice restaurants, you might want to pack linen--it is lightweight, and cool..
Sonoma is sooooooooooo hote in the summer that you want to have a mini airconditioner around your head....
For day travel- capris and tees

Make those light colored tees (just don't spill any wine). Many of the wineries have lovely grounds where you can picnic. You'll roast in a navy or black t-shirt.
I'd also suggest a hat in the car in case you decide to picnic somewhere.

Rita, what kind of shorts are you talking about? You can wear anything at all to the wineries, but for restaurants you're going to want to look a little bit stylish. You'll get good service regardless but most of the people will be dressed nicely (dockers and polos for men, more choices for women of course) so you'll feel better if you look good.

Maureen, we were in Yountville recently, sitting at the Bouchon Bakery in bike clothes, and marveling about the differences in attire among the many women. I would say the vast majority of women were wearing sandals. Also, long dresses for casual wear seem to be very in right now. If it were me (I live in the Bay Area and am admittedly very casual), for daytime, I'd wear shorts and a tank top with sandals (even flip flops) and for dinner, I'd wear nice slacks and top, with either closed to shoes or sandals..
