My fiance and I will be in Los Angeles the first week of February for a conference. We'll be staying at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. I'm wondering what the temperatures will be like this time of the year (I heard that Feb. is a rainy month).I live in Minnesota so wondering what's best to bring to wear. Should I bring my MN summer clothes which consists of tank tops, camis, capri pants or wear the clothes more suitable for spring - t-shirts, 3/4 length sleeves. I know this sounds stupid, but I have summer white jeans and skirt, can I wear these though it's not summer? We'll probably eat at a high end restaurant one night, what do I wear? I'm starting to obsess over this more than any other place I've traveled to. I guess because I'm now 50 and thinking about all the botox and plastic women I'll be seeing out there, (though I still look pretty good) I'm really freaking out over this. Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

February temperatures are generally in the 60s. I know you're used to much colder, but i don't think you'll be comfy in tanks or capris. Yes, it could rain. your spring clothes might be fine, but usually you need a cardigan or sweater over a Tshirt. Like anywhere else, layers should be good for you. I would leave your warmest wool sweaters at home.

Generally, nice jeans or pants with sweaters/blouses and boots, heels or flats should be fine. Same for the nice restaurant. You'll need a jacket or light coat for evenings--temps drop to the 40s and 50s.

don't worry about those botox women you hear about. it's really not like that. i lived in LA my whole life. you and your fiance should have a great time.

dina gave you good advice. It'll be too cool for summer clothes. Fashionable jeans and a nice top, light jacket or sweater, and you'll be fine.
Plenty of women aren't botoxed, lol, I'm around your age, and I don't have any botox in -- at the moment, lol!

We were in Carmel last Feb. and had one day of 70s and three days high 50s/low 60s. I wore capris and 3/4 length sleeves or pants, short sleeves and a light jacket. I was fine.

LA is warmer than Carmel. They had 80s while we were there but I think that was exceptional weather.

I think layers are good.

Yes, definitely layers as the weather is generally cool (for us) but we can have an exceptional warm spell. However, it will ALWAYS be cool in the evenings (and possibly even cold) so be prepared with a jacket. We are supposed to have a rainy winter, but there is not much evidence of that yet.

Dress is always casual, even at the nicest restaurants. Black slacks with a dressy top would be perfect.

Botox is one of those L.A. cliches, like seeing celebrities on every corner - it happens, but not all that often.

the past 5 february's for me here in LA (the city proper, not suburbs, inland empire, OC, etc) have been actually pretty warm! i'm always surprised by how hot it is in feb here. i'm talking beautiful days in the 80's and sometimes 90's.

bring your spring clothes. 3/4 sleeves and capri pants will be perfect. not summery dresses, per se, but lighter dresses are appropriate. nice sandals and comfortable heels are always a must.

don't worry about the botox ladies. yes, women in LA look and act younger than those in the midwest, but truth is- we can only tell tourists by their shoes and their cars. if you wear stylish shoes, no one will notice your wrinkles

skirt definitely, white jeans probably- people around here don't follow the "white" before/ after laborday thing too much.

Don't stress over what to wear it's just not worth it. I really freaked myself out over our trip to France in Sept. and it was wasted energy. We had all sorts of crazy weather!

I think you've been getting some good advice here so far. Layers is the way to go. I know you're from MN but it's quite possible we'll have cold weather. It can be hit and miss. Right now it is very cold (hail today) and two weeks ago it was baking hot. Throw in a fav. summer outfit, bring mostly spring, and pack a few warm things that are versatile. Don't worry about white. There is no time restriction on white here : )
If you weigh 90 lbs you'll fit right in! lol
Really, we're just regular people out here, and besides, we love your accent.

I have several MN relatives who visit this time of year to get out of the cold of the Twin Cities. They wear jeans, usually with tennis shoes. Boots or flats would be better for going out to nice restaurants. Also bring a light jacket or cardigan sweater. They wear cutesy sweat-shirts to keep warm. (a teddy bear with hearts)UGH!

I also agree with black slacks and dressy top, you can get a lot of milage out of that outfit for night. I also do wear crop pants year around, other than a rainy day.

I travel to LA from San Francisco often, including February, and for conferences; black slacks, nice top and blazer/jacket work great for most nights out and day events, though jeans fine for most daytime stuff; little black dress for fancy dinner would be a winner. I would avoid light colors in shoes and slacks personally, but we wear more black up north perhaps.

Thanks again for all your responses. I have a better idea on what outfits to assemble for the trip. By the way, I do not or never intend to own any cutesy teddy bear, kittens, wild life, or Disney character sweatshirts. Ugh! LOL.

Didn't sound like you were planning on bringing any such sweatshirts, but I wanted to throw that out. My cousin works for 3M, had a conference at the Beverly Hilton hotel, and that is what she wore walking around BH. LOL!

50 is the new 30 or haven't you heard? Since you will be staying in Century City you will she a lot of women dressed for business. At the big shopping mall you will see many dressed is casual. LA casual is either great jeans, black boots, tee shirt and jacket/blazer or a cashmere sweater or super frumpy work out gear. Coach bags seem to be what many women are carrying. Signs of what I call Botox on the brain are women (and men)who are wondering around looking very self important with a cell phone Blue tooth thing attached to one ear, an i-pod thing in the other and an expression on their faces that says, "I don't/did not see you - you are invisible." The best thing to do is just be yourself. It seems like everyone in LA is originally from somewhere else. Born and raised in LA - it is rare to meet someone else actually from there. Have a great trip. BTW - Houstons is a great place for a burger or giant salad right there in the Century City shopping mall along the little Santa Monica side.
