What to wear in Gaslamp District?
Hi,
We're going to San Diego soon and wanted to visit the Gaslamp District in the evening. What to wear?? Is it a dressy area or are jeans and sweatshirt ok too???
Thanks.
Frank

I agree that it depends what you want to do. Some of the nicer clubs and restaurants have a dress code - nice pants and a top, no tennis shoes or flip flops. But there are a few more casual places where you can wear jeans. I'd probably just wear a pair of black pants and a cute litle sweater or top - maybe paired with a leather jacket (it gets cold at night here). Then you'd fit in anywhere.

Hi - he said we. I was just guessing he meant a female companion...sorry if I threatened anyone's sexuality?!
I'm not sure of ages here (you may not want to go in any clubs) but some of those clubs would not let you in with khaki's and a polo shirt - maybe a black polo shirt with black boots/leather shoes and khaki's but it would still be a stretch downtown. Restaurants a man could probably do it but if there is a female companion I stick to my original post for her!

I go to the Gaslamp District everytime I visit San Diego. Maybe I'm missing something here, but Dockers, Polo shirt, and deck shoes will get you into 99% of the places and you will not feel uncomfortable, unless you are going to a motorcycle bar.

Thanks for all the responses. I appreciate it. Is the Gaslamp District by the water??? Just asking so I would know whether to take a jacket or not. I hate to lug stuff I don't need.

The Gaslamp District is a few blocks from the harbor, so you should take a jacket when you go out at night. The air will be cool. Anywhere on the CA coast it's a good idea to have a light jacket handy.
