what to see in St Augustine, Florida

We are staying just one night in St Augustine. What should we not miss? Does anyone know of a hotel that takes little dogs, and a nice outdoor restaurant where the dog can sit at our feet

I'm not sure about the dog-friendly motels and restaurants. I'm sure your furry friend will enjoy St. Augustine, wherever you stay. I just can't help here.

If you come before the end of January, you will be able to see Nights of Lights. Here is a recent article from the Orlando Sentinel which describes the entire holiday season in St. Augustine <http://tinyurl.com/yx2sw9>. There is additional information about the city and surrounding area at <http://www.getaway4florida.com/> and <http://www.st.augustine.com/>.

You'll definitely want to see "The Old Fort" (Castillo de San Marcos). A good way to get an overview of the entire historic area is by sightseeing train or trolley <http://www.redtrains.com/> or <http://tinyurl.com/yhb57v> which offer a number of packages with some admissions included and all-day reboarding privileges. You can see a lot in one day this way.

Take the day trolley if you can and if time permits there is the Ripleys Believe it or not Museum. Dress warmly for when we were there in Jan. it was quite cool.

I agree with the trolley ride. Take the one by the visitors center--it seems to be better. Make sure to go to the visitors center, which is accross from the fort. The fort is a definate "not miss". Also, go to the Spanish Quarter, which is right by the visitors center. This is a very unique shopping area, complete with cobblestone walkways.

petwelcome.com has good info on pet-friendly accommodations. There are a number of St. Augustine accommodations that show up as allowing dogs. If you don't see anything that you like there, call the St. Augustine Chamber of Commerce (904) 829-5681. They're usually pretty helpful in making recommendations.

St. Augustine is a great place for dogs; you'll see many on the streets of the old city.

Journey's End Bed & Breakfast, St. Augustine, an inn close to all the ancient city offers. Call 1-888-806-2351 or go to www.atjourneysend.com.

To Anonymous-

I am replying to a thread that is nearly 3 months old because:

1. darfos did not say when they were planning to go.

2. Just today (2/23/07) I saw the information about the dog-friendly B&B in St. Augustine.

3. Other people might be interested in this information for their trips in the future.

And 4. I just might have too much time on my hands!

Orlando Vic, it is now 4 months later again, and I, like you, like to bump up old posts if there is pertinent info!!! For pet lovers (that is not the title of this original post but the topic of it!!) - the Bayfront Marin House (NOT the Bayfront Inn) allows dogs. We were there (www.bayfrontmarinhouse.com)in April and saw (did not hear) a dog with a couple there. This is a great B&B, close to the historic district, restaraunts, on the bay, many more perks.
