Hi

we are now staying in Morrisville,NC. It is a beautiful country side with a lot of clean roads and a lot of greenery.

We are planning a small " get to know the place" kind of exploration of the area around here during the Labor Day weekend.

Pls suggest some day trips which would give us a good knowledge of the place here.

I have heard that the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains and lots of beautiful Beaches are nearby.

Pls suggest.

Well, not quite.

You are just under 200 miles from the beach, and about 200 miles from the mountains, so you are likely to be able to see one or the other.

Closer to where you are staying would be visits to the various universities: NC State in Raleigh, Duke in Durham, and UNC in Chapel Hill. All have museums and are interesting places to compare.

Try to eat some of the local foods, even if you don't care for them. It is a way to understand a culture.

I would suggest you consider a day trip to Old Salem in Winston-Salem. It is a lovely area which has been restored to its condition in the late 1700's. While you are here try the Moravian sugar cake from the bakery in Old Salem, have lunch at Mary's Of Course about a block from Old Salem, and visit Wake Forest University home of the Demon Deacons, it is a lovely campus. For a bit of the local and very original arts scene here, drive up to the corner of 6th and Trade St. Park and walk in any direction, there are some excellent galleries and shops here. If you are hungry, try Sweet Potatoes.

I am a resident of NC & (admittedly) had to look up where you were staying. There are many posts on here for both the NC Mts. & beaches. I guess my first question would be why you chose Morrisville ? It really isn't close too much. Both places (the Mts. & beaches) will be packed over Labor Day, it may be hard to find a good place to stay. That being said places I would serach on here would be Asheville, Wilmington, carolina beaches, Charlotte, Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) & carolina mountains. How much time do you have ? We took a great trip to North Carolina and stayed in Black Mountain at the Arbor House Inn - had a great day touring the Biltmore estate.

If you are in the Triangle, go to the Sarah B Duke gardens at Duke. Go to Chapel Hill and walk Franklin Street and get the university feel. Ride through Duke. Not sure what you like but if you like look for TWC. Go walk through the ATP (American Tobacco Project) in Durham. Hillsbourgh is a nice little town. Look at the Triangle.com and The independent website for things to do and see and eat. Just depends on your interests. In Raleigh, plenty of museums as The Art Museum, Natural Sciences (with Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit) and plenty of reatuarants downtown and Gleenwood south. If you like music, look up TWC pavillion at Walnut Creek to see if you like a band. Too bad Hockey has not started or you could see an NHL game with some of our fellow swiss. In MOrrisville, there is a lake right off I-40 which you can rent sail and paddle boats (if it has not closed for the summer).

Just check some of the local websites for Raleigh, Triangle, Durham or Chapel Hill.

Just depends on how long you are here. If only a couple of days, stuff to do in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) if you know where and can find it. (see websites)
