Mississippi has lot of great places to sightsee. Do you just like the blues or something. The Delta of MS sucks. It really does. There is nothing to do and it is very depressing. I do not recommend staying in the Delta. But if you do stay in the Delta, do not stay in Greenville or Greenwood. Maybe Cleveland. South Mississippi has some wonderful and historic sightseeing facilities. Beauvoir, the Biloxi national cemetery, and other coast things to do. Jackson has the Old Capital building, the various museums, etc. But since you seem to be in the Delta area, why not make the pilgrimage to Tupelo and visit the birthplace of Elvis. Then on to Memphis to see the final resting place of Elvis, Graceland.
A walk down Beale street is mandatory for a visitor to Memphis. Sample the BBQ, view the river and relax. You can hear blues in Memphis also.

There is a lot to see in Mississippi and in Memphis.
When you go to Vicksburg be sure to eat at Andre's at Cedar Grove. You should also get a tape and drive through the Civil War Park.
Natchez has beautiful antebellum homes. You should see Longwood, a partially finished home.
Beauvior in Biloxi is a great stop but may be out of your way. The coast also has casinos if you like to gamble.
The Natchez Trace is a historic road you might want to travel. It goes from Natchez to Jackson.
You can find lots of info on Memphis. I would be sure to see Graceland, the home of Elvis.
I live in Mississippi and would be happy to help with questions.

If you like the Blues, try a night at the Shack Up Inn in Clarksdale Ms. Great website at www.shackupinn.com. Also Morgan Freeman owned restuarant called Madidi pricey but very yummy. Mexican restuarant (don't remember name) in Clarksdale is also very good. Ask the locals about music and see the Delta Blues Museum. If you like pottery another interesting off the beaten path place is The Gallery where pottery is made and sold, also have lunch at their restaurant which is about a block away. These are located in Merigold, Ms. there are no signs you just ask the locals who will happily guide you there. The food was delicious and I now have a large pottery platter decorating my mantle.I second the advice in Vicksburg about Andre's at Cedar Grove. Stay at the B&B there at Cedar Grove if you get the chance, very nice. Best music on Beale is usually at BB Kings and/or Black Diamond. Best BBQ at Blues City BBQ.
Have fun and keep cool.

Memphis - Mud Island is interesting, with its tram, small-scale model of the Mississippi River, and the Memphis Belle. Beale Street is touristy, but still a neat scene. The National Civil Rights Museum is moving (based at the hotel where Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot). For dining, you can't get more Memphis than the Rendevous downtown, famous for its dry rub barbeque.
Mississippi - Besides Tunica, I absolutely loved Oxford, the town of Ole Miss. The South's literary capital has a terrific town square.
