What to pack for Orlando next weekend
Hi!
I'm going to Orlando, FL next weekend (red eye thursday night through 6 pm sunday.) I'll be spending the whole time at Disney World. Weather.com says there will be scattered thunderstorms all weekend. What should I pack? I've never been to Florida, so I don't really know what their "thunderstorms" are. Thanks!

We have had unseasonably warm weather for this time of year...high 80's by mid afternoon. It is nice and cool mornings, right now around 63 at almost 8am. Last night was beautiful on the porch. The key is layering. The parks are hotter than normal places due to the people and the wide open walk spaces. They genereate lots of heat so wear cool clothing and lots of sunscreen. We had had so little rain all year that I can't imagine that report to be correct, but?!?! A small unbrella or fold up poncho would be great.

Potentially our afternoon thunderstorms can fall at the rate of one inch per hour, but they are brief in duration. I second the recommendation to bring a folding umbrella. Very important!
Daytime high temps should be pushing 90F with evening lows about 20 degrees cooler.

Just bring a fold up poncho. We got caught in a thunderstorm once in Disney. We stayed indoors for a while until it passed. Thundershower did not last long and we continued to have fun!
We bought a poncho in one of the stores and everyone around us was also wearing it. Poncho is the best because after the rain, when all the outdoor rides are wet, your clothes are kept dry and protected by the poncho. Have Fun!

SUNSCREEN! (Or buy it as soon as you land!) The sun here is intense; if you can swing a shady hat, do it, but sunscreen no matter what!
And check the weather daily until you leave--it really is pretty changeable at this time of year.
Have fun!

If you happen to jinx yourself and the rain comes while you are here we would be very happy. We are under a red alert for dry conditions and fires, as of last December we were about 13" short rainfall for the year and it is only getting worse.
If we do have t-storms they will be short. Bring a cheap poncho and sunscreen and you will be fine. Enjoy your stay.
