What to do/eat in Huntsville, AL

I am going to a wedding in Huntsville Alabama this May. Aside from the NASA stuff, does anyone have recomendations on what to do and where to eat in Huntsville?

Thanks

I met up with a friend for a weekend there while her son and hubby went through space camp a couple of years ago. We went to the botanic garden--it was OK (butterfly enclosure was lame). I did a walking tour looking at historic houses and visited the open air historical museum with live demonstrations--pretty good. They went to the science museum--for very young children.

Thanks Kay. Are the Historic Houses good?

Nashville TN is only 2 hours away on Interstate 65. You may want to check out some of the excitement there.

Phillip,

Thanks, I have visited Nashville before. Unfortunately we only are in Huntsville for a wedding - we are flying from boston - and so won't have a chance to go anywhere particularly out of town.

Any other suggestions?

Try a drive up Monte Sano mountain-nice park, japanese gardens and hiking trails. If you choose to hike, beware- the trails were poorly marked when I was there last. If you don't mind an hour drive to the Shoals area you can visit Helen Keller's birthplace as well as WC Handy's. Depending on what weekend you go, you might catch an art fair.

I don't live in Huntsville, but when I'm there I love to eat at Joy Luck Club-great Chinese/Vietnamese food.

Go to Thai of Surin for Thai Food - Airport Rd. Pauli's in Madison for upscale dining. Try Luciano's for Great Italian. Or the best German restaurant in town is Cafe Berlin on Airport Road. Tim's Cajun Kitchen for good cajun food on Jordan Lane.
Clemintine's for lunch in the 5 points area. Seattle south for good coffee shop and scones. Have fun!
