My son's graduating from basic training at Ft Leonard Wood in a few weeks and we're flying out from NY to see him. He'll only have a day pass, so what do you suggest we do? He wants to eat at a good restaurant (he loves steak), He doesn't have a lot of time for a full day trip, so I was hoping there would be some interesting towns where we could eat, and perhaps do something else with him. We're not familiar with that area. Have only been to Branson. Any suggestions are welcome.
What to do within driving distance of Ft Leonardwood?

When the grad service was over, the visitors had at least 1.5 hours of free time, while the Army boys moved their belongings to the newest barracks or bus transfer areas. We stood near the boys and chatted with other family members.
Once the boys were released, we were so hot, the next thing we did was get drinks from the commissary and went to a park area on FLW; there is also a pool that I believe is accessible for the families on Grad Day.
The town area is several miles away from FLW, requiring a car.Eateries are chain restaurants. Our celebratory dinner was at a Cracker Barrel if I recall.
Will try to remember a steak place for you...
Do you have any idea how much time you'll have for driving?
