What to do with a day and half in Skaneateles?

On very short notice, now have a trip to Syracuse and Skaneateles. Will have an extra day or so free time to enjoy the area and have never spent time in the Finger Lakes area, so appreciate any recommendations on the best to see and do in the area with our limited time.

You are in a very good location for several different options...

For nature lovers, you have Letchworth State park, Watkins Glen state park, the beauty of the lakes...

For wine lovers, over 40 wineries within a few hours,

Skaneateles is famous for its Spas and high end massage and body treatments...

Along Rt20 are some great villages, antique shops and scenery...

Seneca Falls leads a long list of historical sites and Geneva offers some historic hotel properties...

You need to decide what interests you and concentrate on a plan... Have fun

MRand- I cannot offer any advice, but just want to say Hi. I always enjoyed your trip reports and appreciated your Costa Rica advice way back when.

I also can't offer advice - but do they still make those Skaneateles wooden train sets that I played with as a kid and still have, saving for my grandchildren.

Thanks very much garyt.

Hey Michelle. I certainly remember your great comments from back then. I have to say I haven't frequented Fodors as much as I would have liked in recent years. Still traveling, but things have gotten so hectic with business that I don't have a lot of time for the trip reports. Have the forums (fora?) here at Fodors changed much since back then? Regards.

There is a small but impressive museum in Syracuse.

https://www.everson.org/home.php

And if you want to go off your diet go to the original Dinosaur BBQ.

MRand- I feel the Forums aren't as active. Mexico and Central America are quiet. We have only traveled to Cabo and here in CA and I haven't done any reports either. I am just lazy :/ I have to get back into the Europe board since we may go to Spain next July to visit the cousins in Pamplona. Encierro, yay!

MichelleY

There are some posters who live in Spain and others who have a great deal of knowledge about Spain. There is an American who is a travel professional who lives part time in Pamplona.

There is a fellow named Kimhe, who lives for flamenco but knows Spain well.

A lot of reliable info besides people who made once visit and are trying to make a career out of it.

Do not be concerned about trip reports. Most trips are like expense reports written by anal retentive accountants.

I don't know the area too well, but I've been there a couple of times. I would definitely go to Seneca Falls if you have the time, and eat at Doug's Fish Fry.
