We will be staying at the Crotched Mountain Resort in Francestown, NH on Oct 5-12. We're looking as some ideas on what to do and where to go in the area. We will be spending two of the days in Woodstock, Vermont. The wife will be taking a 2-day baking class at King Arthur Flour. The rest of the time is simply a getaway to relax a bit. We like the shops, events and tourist areas.

Peterborough nh is a nice town with great bookstore. The Toadstool carries both new and used. We like to,visit used bookstore in Marlborough nh. Have not been to Kearsarge Indian Museum in Warner NH but Warner is a nice little town on I89. November is an odd month but check nh league of arts and crafts. Might hit the weekend when studios throughout state are open to the public.

I have some dear friends who live in Francestown. Truth be told, there' not a whole lot to see and do in the area at that time of year. The leaves are all gone from the trees, except for the pink oaks where they'll stay, brown, until they fall off in spring. The snows won't have come yet, but if you're out driving in the morning, beware of the icy patches.

If you enjoy bicycle riding but hate hills, the Francestown Turnpike -- the road that runs from Mont Vernon to Francestown -- is heaven. It's absolutely flat, no traffic to speak of, and as pleasant a ride as you can imagine.

Woodstock is a much larger town, with an especially pleasant town center. On the way between Francestown and Woodstock, if it's a nice day, you would do very well to stop by the St Gaudens historic site in Corning, NH, on the banks of the Connecticut River. This is sort of an outdoor sculpture park and nature center (Augustus St Gaudens was a well-known sculptor), and it's a little jewel of a place.

I second the recommendation for St. Gaudens National Historic site. Another interesting spot right on your way to/from Woodstock is the Enfield Shaker Museum

The Lowell MA national historic park is about an hour from Francestown

Go to the movies in Milford. They are in the old town hall, and you could, last time I was there, sit in an easy chair or on a sofa as well was in a movie seat.

You can also easily head to Manchester to visit the Currier Museum of Art.

I also like to recommend Pickity Place for lunch in Mason.

And we visited the telephone museum in Warner today...actually a pretty cool little museum!
