What to do in Minneapolis?

Will be there for 4 days in late October for a friend's wedding, staying at the Westin. What's fun to do there? (I figure we'll spend one day at the Mall of America, but don't know anything else about the city.)

Might spend some time looking for Garrison Keillor, I guess!

The Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Walker Art Center are must-sees, especially the Walker! I don't know where you're coming from or what you're expecting at the MOA, but it's really just a big mall--which is fine and all, I just never want anyone to think it's more than that. All the usual chain stores are represented, and of course if you don't have those where you live, you'll have fun. Otherwise, there is more unique shopping elsewhere (Grand Ave in St. Paul is fun). Weather should be great then, enjoy!

You can walk around the city lakes, Lake of the Isles is especially nice. Go to the Warehouse District... Nicolett Mall in the city center...The art museum at the U of MN is on the banks of the Mississippi..The Walker.. great city. I wouldn't waste any time at MOA.Nothing unique about it. When it was under construction it was called the Mauling of America by some..
If you have a car, drive out to Wayzata on Lake Minnetonka for a waterfront lunch.

azzure, what are your interests? Do you have a car? Its huntin season if that interests you. I don't think the Twins are going to be in the world series so that is out of the question.....Do you have children traveling with you? More info = better responses

The bride and groom just added "to do's" on their wedding web page: the Walker, Minn. Institute of Art are on it, as well as the Museum of Russian Art and the Mill City Museum. Also the Guthrie Theater, the Arboretum and the Wildflower and Bird Sanctuary. No car, so I'm researching the light rail options. Thanks to all for your great suggestions!

I have received many good suggestions from the Minneapolis forum on Trip Advisor. Fun restaurants at night include Nye's Polannaies and the Shout House. I always plan on one breakfast at Hell's Kitchen and stock up on their wonderful, though very sweet, peanut butter. My husband and I enjoyed the Segway tour. See a show at the historic Guthrie theatre. Rent a bike and ride along the lakes, though I'm too lazy, old, unfit, and did it by car. Haha. You'll enjoy Minneapolis.

A quibble: the Guthrie is not in a historic building, it's in a newly built complex on the river that looks gorgeous, although I haven't seen it in person. http://www.guthrietheater.org/visit/the_building

A shout out to the locals or anyone visiting in March. A really empowering Minneapolis event (well actually in Richfield) called Embrace Your Feminine Power. Explores conflict resolution strategies, resolving conflict, standing in your power. Hosted by 3 mediators and can also be used for continuing ed credits.

I really enjoyed Minneapolis. Nice little city. Look for a cruise down the Mississippi. We did one that included Locks. There is one that you are on a Riverboat. Nicollette Mall is a major "mall" downtown with a lot of restaurants, etc. We went to Brit's Pub for lunch. See if Target Field is offering tours at that point or see what is going on at the Metrodome (interesting stadium).
