What to do in Miami in the Rain

I'm going to be in Miami from June 21-26 and right now the forecast calls for scattered thundershowers every single day. Ugh! So I'm looking for suggestions of indoor things to do in Miami that are inexpensive. I just returned home from an expensive vacation, so this was supposed to be a cheap, lie on the beach few days before I head to a professional conference in Orlando.

I'll be staying in South Beach. From my research it sounds like it can be kind of a hassle to travel between South Beach and other neighborhoods (or if not a hassle, an expense that adds up), but I'm thinking there may not be too many indoor options in South Beach. I just want to keep taxi/Uber fees to a minimum.

Are there any great libraries or bookstores? I really love to read. Areas with cute boutiques to browse?Cafes or coffee shops with a great atmosphere where I could hang out for a couple of hours?

This is why beach vacations terrify me! When they're good, they're great. But if the weather's off, they can be miserable.

Don't fret - weather forecasts more than 5 days out are never very accurate and you are looking more than 10 days ahead. While it might rain sometime during your trip it is doubtful you'll encounter all day rains. Scattered showers in the Miami area are just that, brief showers in one area (most likely in afternoon or early evening) that won't have much of an adverse effect on your outdoor activities. It could rain in one area and be dry as a bone 1 mile away.

OK, here's the REAL deal from somebody who lives 35 miles up the beach.

LAST week we had a lot of rain down here and on several days the rain pretty much lasted ALL day long.

More usually in the summer here we will get a periodic rain squall which lasts a short period of time.

I would not count on having to be inside the whole time.

You might want to explore Coconut Grove or even Viscaya amongst other spots.

Exactly. When it rains, you find cover until it passes in 15-30min, then carry on.

Thanks for the reassurances. I guess I'm having flashbacks to my Hawaiian vacation of 2006 when there were epic torrential rains.

It looks like it will still be warm, so I can still lie on the beach, even if lying on the beach under an overcast sky isn't nearly as fun as lying on the beach under the sun.
