Do you mean Louisiana or Los Angeles?
If Los Angeles then I can help you out if you email me directly. Regardless of where you are going, I find picking up a decent guide book gives a lot of good suggestions on things to do etc.
PS. You may not know this, but it's considered "shouting" on message boards to write in all caps.. you may get a comment on it.

If you mean Los Angeles you certainly will need a car.Unless you are a real movie nut stay away from "Hollywood" because there is Zero there except druggies and freaks of all kinds. Go to Beverly Hills, Malibu,Palos Verdes,Santa Monica.Take adrive up the coast from Santa Monica to Santa Barbara. Stop on the way in Montecito.Go to Long Beach,Manhattan Beach. Take another day and drive to San Diego. As you can see there is no "real L.A." It is practically from SanDiego north to Santa Barbara with lots of great places in between. I lived there (Playa del Rey) for forty years so I know the area. If you need more specifics e-mail me.

May I suggest driving down to Long Beach, see the Queen Mary, and take one of the boats over to Catalina. You can shop around in all the small shops there or take a tour of the island, or both. In all the times that I have been in LA, that was by far my favorite thing that i have done. Catilina is beautiful!

The Getty Centre is wonderful! Great views of L.A., marvellous architecture and gardens, interesting collections of art (paintings, sculpture, furniture etc) well displayed and not overwhelming, and a fun monorail ride up. It's free, but you have to reserve parking, or park in a lot and take a $10 bus ride.
From Australia, it's the best thing I found in L.A.!

When I go to L.A. (which is as often as I can)I like to do the following: I always head for Santa Monica, the Third Street Promenade is a very happening place. They have closed off the streets to cars so you get to walk, shop, and eat at great places. There is usually street entertainment, too. I always go to the Cheesecake Factory in Beverly Hills for lunch or dinner and walk around to see things I can't afford. I go for coffee and dessert to the Polo Lounge in the Beverly Hills Hotel. I check out Melrose Avenue to see the latest crazes and eat at the diner on the corner (I forget the name). I go to the beach and boardwalk in Venice which is always interesting. I always promise myself that I'm going to the Getty Museum but never make it. I go to Malibu for lunch. Never made the effort to get tickets to any of the TV Tapings but I should. Always go to Laguna Beach to walk around and eat at Five Feet. What area are you staying in?
