What should we do in Kitty Hawk - last week of September?
Hello Fodor Travelers,
I searched the forums.
Nothing recent on Kitty Hawk. My husband and I are going for several days.
Ideas on dining? Should we go to Duck / Nags head while we are there?
Would like to bike on bike paths. Want to get a feel of the Outer Banks.
Thank you!

Kill Devil Grill, Rundown Cafe and Sam and Omie's (great breakfast).
I think the best way to get the feel for the Banks is to be on the beach. A nice day trip would be down Highway 12 to Ocracoke, or up to Corolla. That time of year is so nice. Lucky you.

Watch the waves from offshore hurricanes pummel the beach!
Drive down to Manteo for the day, maybe go to Ocracoke. But this is pretty much relaxing-on-the-beach country rather than doing stuff country.

I would aslo spend a day and drive down to Ocracoke stopping along the way at the Lighthouse and other places that look nice. Take ferry to Ocracoke and park the car. Rent a bike or golf cart and just ride or walk around the village. Shop or do whatever. Drive back to ferry, take it across and go back the 1 hour north to Nags Head. A good day trip.

Two years ago five of my group took a scenic flight over the Outer Banks and it was outstanding! Charlie Snow, the owner/pilot of Outer Banks Charters, is quite a character and makes your flight a wonderful experience. Seeing the island and ocean from the air was outstanding. It costs about $75 per person. (http://outerbanksaircharters.com/) We're thinking of doing it again this year (I'll be down there two weeks from tomorrow!!!!)
