What is the worst restaurant in America?

We always talk about the best. Well, what about the worst restaurant? Not one that is a cheap dive but one which is trying to be upscale or fine-dining and just fails miserably. Criteria for inclusion would be bad food or surly service.

Any single restaurant the Riese Bros have ever touched in New York City. It is amazing to me how they can take a mediocre restaurant (TGI Fridays) and absolutely turn it into the biggest dump.

Iron Skillet off of I95 in Virginia.

Disgusting.

Husband and I were coming back from the Keys and needed a hotel room for the night.

The only restaurant was an Iron Skillet.
Filthy is the only adjective I can use on this forum.

Never again....

Why would you want to know this? Would you like a reservation? I would vote for Applebee's or the Olive Garden.

Crabby Bill's of St. Petersburg, FL and Bat cave, NC. Shoe-leather quality tuna steaks, awful stone crab, cheesy atmosphere.

Glacier Brewhouse in Anchorage, AK. Long wait anytime, lots of cruise-geezers, got the food wrong three times in a row, and the ABSOLUTE worse excuse for French Onion soup on this planet. Go to the Saturday Market and get the fried Halibut and corn fritters. You won't be disappointed.

Actually, you are correct. I'd like to try Americas worst restaurant. It would be worth a lot of stories and good laughs.

The Velvet Rope in White's Center, NM just outside of Carslbad Caverns. If ever you go to this National Park, you have no choice but to drive through White's Center which has no other purpose on this Earth than to be a tourist trap. Unfortunately, there aren't many lodging options in the area, leaving you stuck in this hellhole of a tourist trap. We were hungry and the only resturant in town was the Velvet Rope. Two hour wait, the world's worst chips and salsa, fajitas that reminded me of dried rat jerky, extremely dirty and even more overpriced. Hands down, the worst!

I always wondered about the Waffle House chain. I've never been in one, but I'm convinced that the person who designed the exterior formerly designed prisons. Absolutely the most unappealing look I've ever seen.

Any Friendly's, Luby's cafeteria or Lone Star. If I had to chose one of these as the worst, well it's Luby's hands down, absolutely disgusting!

That drive-in where they serve bear burgers. I won't even say the town name, refuse to give it any free advertising, some poor fool might actually be into bear, and go.

The Union Oyster House, Boston. It's history. Probably could add Jimmy's and Pier 4. Too bad.

Worst meal I ever had was at a place in Lake George, NY called the Bavaria House. Nothing Bavarian whatsoever about it. Food was like an elementary school cafeteria on a bad day -- they actually had the nerve to serve instant mashed potatoes and canned vegetables. Spouse ordered turkey and got turkey ROLL on a slice of Wonder bread with cold gravy. Totally appalling, I hope they're out of business.

Have to agree with the above poster about any Riese Brothers restaurant in NYC. Obviously tourists eat there and think this is what NYC is supposed to be like.

I have to defend Waffle House. If you go expecting gourmet, you'll be disappointed, but if you just want a good, basic breakfast, they're great.

Like any chain, some are better than others, and I've never eaten lunch or dinner there, but thier breakfasts are our usual "on the road" food.

Most of you people have not responded to the original question. I don't think Waffle House is trying to be 'upscale', Applebees and Olive Garden are pretty much trying to stay casual as well.
