What is the Best Hotel in NY to watch the ball drop New Years Eve?

Hi, I am looking to book a hotel in Times Square for New Years Eve 2002 and wanted to find out the names of the best hotels in that area. Especially, If we can watch the ball drop from our room window!! Please Advise.

Agreed. Keep in mind that you'll pay a premium for a room with direct view (I'd get a written guarantee of what room you'll be getting) and you will need to reserve waaaaay in advance. I think it would be cool and really fun - have been thinking about doing the same thing. I live in the area but lack the patience to stand in Times Square for 6 or 8 hours (or longer) just to see that live.

Lisa,

I don't know if things have changed but we tried to book a room with a view at the Marriott Marquis over Thanksgiving weekend a few years ago and they would not guarantee us a room with a view of Broadway. We did plan on being outside for the parade but we just wanted a room with a view in case it rained.

I agree with Owen, get it in writing if someone at the Marquis does say they will confirm you a room with a view.

Also try the Crowne Plaza, Doubletree Guest Suites, or the Hilton Times Square. They are all right there!

Crowne Plaza- No
Hilton Times Square - No
Marriott - Some rooms on the south side, close to Broadway
Renaissance - Views of rooms on the south side have views blocked by large signs.
Douibletree - view from rooms on the south side is blocked by large buildings between 43rd and 46th Streets
