What does Savannah/Charleston "do" for Xmas?
I've been to Savannah 3-4 times in either late November or early December and I do remember the fountain being dolled up, and I've even been to the December version of the home and garden show (which was just as much fun as the spring one).
I don't recall Xmas markets, although I probably wasn't seeking them out. Each visit amounted to just taking a day out of my visit to my house in SC (not far from Savannah) and wandering around aimlessly. In fact the home and garden show was a happy accident - I just happened to show up on the right day and found out.
So... this year I'm likely going to be at my SC house over Thanksgiving again. I'm going to be in Xmas market withdrawal, given that 2009 saw me in Bruges and 2010 saw me in Vienna. I'll be in Savannah for sure one day, and since I'll be there for the week might even pop up to Charleston for a day.
In late November, what can I expect other than lots of decorations?
Thanks.

I've always wanted to go to the holiday boat parade in Jacksonville, but didn't realize until recently that there are so many others. Take a look at list for ones near Savannah and Charleston. Looks like a lot of fun to me -

Great ideas!
I used to take my mom down for the B&B holiday tour when she was more mobile. I don't know if they still do it, but it was at the beginning of December.
Hopefully, suewoo will find her way here to share ideas for Charleston.

Charleston has a boat parade too. The decorations are traditional-no running lights in the HD King Street closes off to car traffic and has a big tree at the corner of King and Wentworth.
flygirl, I'll do Christmas markets for you in Trier and Cologne.

suewoo, as the resident Charleston expert.........what can I expect the week before Christmas? We have tickets to see the Russian Ballet performance of the Nutcracker on Dec 20. Any fabulous recommendation regarding historical homes? Shops? It's a family trip of 8 with ages ranging from 7 to 70!!
