What can we do in St. Francisville, LA?
My husband and I are booked at the Green Springs inn and Cottage in St. Francisville, LA in June. I spoke with the owner Madeline Nevill and she seems very nice. Does anyone have suggestions on things to do? We love to do "authentic" both sightseeing and eating. Please advise what the locals enjoy.

St. Francisville is a VERY sleepy little town north of Baton Rouge. Not much except for a few antique stores, a few plantations (I like Audubon's Oakley House personally) and a nuclear power plant! It's very relaxing, though, and you're not far from Baton Rouge's restaurants and sights.

Lily,
John's right there is not much to see or do. We were in St Francisville in March after spending a few days in NO. It's a beautiful location and just right if you're looking to relax. I would NOT recommend anyone stop at Rosedown Plantantion. It $10 per person to get in, self guided tour, you are not able to tour the house, you stand on the other side of plexiglas and hit a button to listen to a tape recorded message. The gardens are large but not worth the stop. It's my understanding that at one time volunteers gave tours in period costumes, and also had volunteers who tended the gardens. Since the new owner bought the property all of this has changed and has become a great dissapointment, and sore spot from what we gathered to those in the area.
If you like Chinese food, there is a great place in town, it's in a little strip mall. I'm sorry I don't remember the name.
We also stopped at the Cottage, the woman who gave the tour could not have been any less enthused she mummbled through the whole tour.

Janine is right. When we were there in Sept, no one would recommend visiting Rosedown. The whole community is livid over what is happening with it. One plantation we visited which was very interesting was Catalpa. Lots of family history there and the tour guide was most informative. Also, if the road to Greenwood Plantation is still under repair you might want to skip it. The detour took forever and when we got there it had already closed.

We recently ate at the Carriage House Restaurant on the grounds of the Mytles Plantation. The Restaurant was decorated very nice and the food was fabulous.
I would recommend stopping here for a delicious meal and the tour of the home was very interesting!
TWO Thumbs up!

Grace Episcopal Church and graveyard are beautiful. Love walking around Saint Francisville and looking at the houses. Also drive over to New Roads, crossing over the Mississippi River bridge and look around. Rosedown, Oakley and other plantations are very interesting.
