My husband and I are booked at the Green Springs inn and Cottage in St. Francisville, LA in June. I spoke with the owner Madeline Nevill and she seems very nice. Does anyone have suggestions on things to do? We love to do "authentic" both sightseeing and eating. Please advise what the locals enjoy.
What can we do in St. Francisville, LA?

St. Francisville is a VERY sleepy little town north of Baton Rouge. Not much except for a few antique stores, a few plantations (I like Audubon's Oakley House personally) and a nuclear power plant! It's very relaxing, though, and you're not far from Baton Rouge's restaurants and sights.
Thanks for the (Warning) John. It sounds great though, just what we need after a hectic Spring! We will be in NO for a few days after as well soooo the best of both I guess.
Lily, we stopped at the Rosedown Plantation & Gardens in St. Francisville on our way to Natchez, MS. It was definitely one of the most enjoyable of the plantations and antebellum homes we toured in LA & MS.
We were there in September and found St. Francisville a quiet and relaxing kind of place. The two best restaurants we found were Sammy's Grill and Magnolia Cafe. They are practically across the street from each other and easy to find.
Lily,
John's right there is not much to see or do. We were in St Francisville in March after spending a few days in NO. It's a beautiful location and just right if you're looking to relax. I would NOT recommend anyone stop at Rosedown Plantantion. It $10 per person to get in, self guided tour, you are not able to tour the house, you stand on the other side of plexiglas and hit a button to listen to a tape recorded message. The gardens are large but not worth the stop. It's my understanding that at one time volunteers gave tours in period costumes, and also had volunteers who tended the gardens. Since the new owner bought the property all of this has changed and has become a great dissapointment, and sore spot from what we gathered to those in the area.
If you like Chinese food, there is a great place in town, it's in a little strip mall. I'm sorry I don't remember the name.
We also stopped at the Cottage, the woman who gave the tour could not have been any less enthused she mummbled through the whole tour.

We stayed at the Myrtles Plantation in St Francisville, which is supposedly haunted! Although we didn't experience any ghosts it was still fun. You could go and take a tour of the plantation and here some good old fashion ghost stories.
EXCUSE MY SPELLING!! I meant h e a r
some good old fashion ghost stories!
Janine is right. When we were there in Sept, no one would recommend visiting Rosedown. The whole community is livid over what is happening with it. One plantation we visited which was very interesting was Catalpa. Lots of family history there and the tour guide was most informative. Also, if the road to Greenwood Plantation is still under repair you might want to skip it. The detour took forever and when we got there it had already closed.
We recently ate at the Carriage House Restaurant on the grounds of the Mytles Plantation. The Restaurant was decorated very nice and the food was fabulous.
I would recommend stopping here for a delicious meal and the tour of the home was very interesting!
TWO Thumbs up!
Grace Episcopal Church and graveyard are beautiful. Love walking around Saint Francisville and looking at the houses. Also drive over to New Roads, crossing over the Mississippi River bridge and look around. Rosedown, Oakley and other plantations are very interesting.
