What Are Everyone's Fourth of July Plans?

What are everyone's Fourth of July plans?

For the first time in probably twenty years, Mr. GoTravel and I aren't hosting a house party, no relatives, no boat parades, no big cookouts, etc. I'm so excited I can't stand it!

Peace and quiet! Aahhh!

That sounds lovely GoTrav, peace and quiet is indeed a wonderful journey in itself!

My DH and I are headed up to the North Shores of Lake Superior, just a quick four day weekend, but we are renting a log home built in the 1920's so I'll post a lil something when we return, just in case it is a good find.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Fourth of July weekend.

Tiff

Nothing going on here either, lovely! I would suspect dinner at a LV buffet and then watch fireworks from our br balcony while my spouse is fast asleepCan't wait for time alone with my hubby as we have had family visiting for the past few weeks.

Getting out of Chicago so that I don't have to spend all night listening the illegal firesworks that everyone in my neighborhood sets off every year. I'm going out to my parents place to spend time with some relatives in from New England.

I think our family (being worn out from the month of June) will no doubt just stay home and try to catch up on things and get rested. I understand your feelings GoTravel, I am feeling the same way. Imagine if my SIL is not working he will no doubt grill and we will have a simple 4th of July dinner.

Have 4th of July weekend to everyone!

To our camphouse on the river, with friends for the day. Probably some boating, and riverbanking. Definitely bbqed ribs, and fresh from the garden corn, squash, and tomatoes and homemade peach ice cream.

No fixed plans yet, except for Saturday - my friend's family spends all day at our home. Food and computer

She asked to help with her trip to Vancouver area, I will share with her (and especially her 14-year-old) all websites and tricks.

And if all goes well I'll introduce them to Fodors!

Vittrad, being that all the houses around me are vacation rentals, I'm getting the illegal fireworks every night already!

Fortunately, I can now sleep right through them!

We are leaving tomorrow for a week of sailing. Our boat is in St Pete and I'm praying red tide is gone! Tradition has it that we provision it, food and unmentionables, anchor it in Boca Ciega Bay 4th of July around mid-day, have dinner and watch the fireworks all around us...St Pete Beach, Treasure Island in front of us, St. Petersburg etc to our stern, and Gulfport to our north...a long procession of fireworks staggered by the town's schedules. We won't come in until the next morning, after what is usually a fitful sleep wondering if we might be dragging anchor, getting up and checking the GPS to make sure we aren't. Believe it or not, we really do love it despite the heat, the traditional thunderstorm, and the concerns anyone has at anchor. You wake up early the next morning, the bay is calm the water sparkles and the air is cool(ish). Please please please NO RED TIDE!

Only bummer this year, having moved, we've got to decide whether to sell it or move it to Texas where we can use it more often. The jury is absolutely out on which way we'll go, and I don't want to think about it!

Sticking close to home. Hate the "everyone going north Friday" traffic here in Michigan. Planning to catch up on some special chores around the house since the hubbie and kids will also be home. Also getting ready for some home renovations to be started soon.

Tiff,
Where along Lake Superior will you be? Son goes to Michigan Tech and always looking for interesting places on the way.

ON sunday July 3rd, I'll be at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Party starts at 5 PM with lots of live entertainment, and the fireworks go off at 8:45 over Honolulu Harbor. Yee ha!

Hi SuzieTrue,

The North Shore to us is the Grand Marais, Lutsen area. (Of course, the TRUE tippy top north shores of Lake Superior are actually in beautiful Canada, so we will actually be on the northwest shores, if one wanted to be very specific, lol).

The log home we are renting is privately owned and in the Lutsen area right on the lake. We always head up to Grand Marais for a little day trip, and I think this time we will try cmcfong's restaurant rec for the Angry Trout, sounds delic.

I had two friends that went to Mich Tech, great school!

Have a great weekend, staying close to home always sounds so relaxing, and you are right, we will be on this end of the "Up North" traffic! Ugh, ha.

Best wishes, Tiff

I'll be spending Friday and Saturday night in Vermont, "camping", swimming, and bbq'ing with family. Sunday, will meet up with my bf on his way home from visiting his mom and we'll enjoy spending Sunday and Monday together at home in Lake Placid. It'll be the first 4th in a while that I've actually spent at home. I'm really looking forward to enjoying the festivities my wonderful town has to offer. Of course, I have to work on Tuesday so I can't be as liberal with the spirits as I normally would...That's ok, though, because we'll be going to the Blues Fest in Albany the following weekend and I'll definitely make up for it there.

Happy 4th everyone!
God Bless America!

OO, you've brought back so many nice sailing memories!

My favorite is anchoring in Lake Worth overnight to head out to the West End of the Bahamas!

Same thing, dragging anchors, fitfull sleep, etc. We did drag, we hit another boat (thankfully zero damage) and had a very eventful night.

After no sleep and almost running aground near Peanut Island, we decided to head out.

Have a great time and I beleive sailing would be the only thing that would get me off the beach this weekend!

Don't sell the boat! Just move it over to Texas.

Ahhhhhhhh, Lake Placid, Ethel, reminds me of our great 1980 Olympic Hockey team!

Can't get any more patriotic than that!

Leaving tonight for a week at the lake in Michigan. I'll have a lot of relaxation and nature actually, plus 2 or 3 days of all the things Go Travel isn't doing this year. Plus I will put a second coat on the deck surface and swim a lot because is it over 90 degrees.

I have never heard peace and quiet this week in my lifetime. My neighborhood in IL right now is endless "boomers" and I have already picked up more than a few remnants of rockets while gardening. In MI or anywhere else we roam, the same. Fireworks overkill as far as I am concerned. But "for truth" it will be a wonderful and much anticipated week.

I had peace and quiet when I was sick recently and couldn't wait to get better for that reason alone. I'll have peace and quiet enough when I'm dead, IMHO. The more time with grandkids and their questions the better. Just me and mine this week, which is unusual. We have a joke among us that there are no intrevert genes or those with personality traits depleted by company in our family. One my show up eventually, but so far- no way.
