We stayed there in Sept for our 20th anniversary. Wanted someplace nice and not a big resort. We arranged our condo through Suite Paradise because they offered better rates. I asked for a 2nd level room in Building 1. It was perfect. There was a small section of lawn and a couple of palm trees between the condo and the ocean. The lanai is huge. You could get to the lanai from the master bedroom or the living room. There was a table with 4 chairs and 2 lounge chairs and still LOTS of room to get around. The interior was very nice. 2 bathrooms. The pool is right on the ocean so it's like you're at the beach. There is a jacuzzi right next to the pool. The pool has no rim so it is flush with the patio. There are outdoor bbqs near the pool and stairs that go down to the stream that empties into the ocean. Good for snorkeling. No sandy beach though. Very private, very quiet, very romantic. The front desk was very helpful. Any specific questions?
We visted the Hyatt while we were there and thought it was beatiful but we never regretted staying in our big beautiful condo.

We are planning on going the First of June, as I said, for our honeymoon. Looking for quiet, yet close to attractions. We're from the beach, so being right on the water doesn't matter to us. How far from other attractions is it? Like airport, good restaurants, walking trails, anything that may be of interest?

It's just a short short drive to the Spouting Horn and Botanical Gardens. Also very close drive to The Beach House Restaurant. It's pretty much in Poipu so it's close driving to the popular restaurant, Roys, and to the bigger hotels like the Hyatt and Sheraton.
We drove to Waimea Canyon and did a hike there. We're sorry we never made it to Polihale Beach which I really wanted to do. Since we're from Ca we drive everywhere so the proximity of everything on Kauai is close for us. North shore is a decent drive and would probably be only and hour if we didn't leave at morning rush hour on a weekday. We had a convertible so driving anywhere was half the fun.
Lihue is less than 30 minutes drive and Kapaa is about 30 or so minutes. You do get caught up in looking around so it's hard to judge actual minutes! Basically Kauai is a small island. All two lane roads except in some places where it's 3 and they move the cones depending on the time of day so that one direction or the other gets the benefit of an extra lane.

The units at Whalers are individually owned, most are pretty luxurious. Whalers is located at the mouth of an idyllic ocean inlet and has expansive views, fabulous sunsets. It's in a quiet, upscale residential neighborhood. There are many scenic oceanfront places to walk in this area. The Sheraton is less than 1/2 a mile away and has a good swimming beach and restaurant.

Alooohaaa all, At the sugestion of the lovely and always informative Suuuzie, Mrs Kal and I drove by The Whaler's Cove on our last trip.
Once we were able to find it (she had the map-honest!) we thought that we'd like to stay there if we ever stay in Poipu again.
Looked like it was well kept and the views out the back were pretty darn nice. Probably see a lot of whales during the winter months.
And don't forget the ATV tours out of Koloa and Kiahuna Joe's Restaurant at the Kiahuna Golf Course.

I'm not familiar with Whalers Cove but another place to consider near by is Poipu Embassy (timeshare condos). We stayed there on our honeymoon and it was great! The units are very nicely furnished and spacious with wonderful lanais. Many are oceanfront (we lucked into one). I can't tell you the going price but we did a "buy it now" on ebay.com and paid $500. for the week. Just wanted to suggest a back-up idea for you.
