Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas-walkable to Whaler's Village?

Our family of four is trying to decide which Maui Westin to stay at this summer. We prefer the location of the Westin Resort because it is close to Whaler's Village. However, I have read many negative reviews about the small/non-closeted/outdated rooms there, and thought it might be nice to get a condo style unit at the Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas.

I did notice that the Villas have a shuttle to the Westin; however, my husband wants the flexibility of walking from our hotel to the restaurants at Whaler's Village.

Can anyone tell me how far of a walk it would be? Does the beach walk go around the Sheraton, or end at the Sheraton?

We stayed at the Hyatt two years ago, and thought that the walk to Whaler's Village was manageable - is that comparable to the distance between Whaler's and the Westin Villas?

Thanks for any help!

The walk ends at the Sheraton. The villas are about 1.5 miles from the Whalers Village area when you are driving. I don't know how easy or difficult it would be to walk from the ocean side and then if there is a path to get around Black Rock. I know there is a golf course on the other side and I'm thinking there must be a path somewhere there.

Necessary to walk through the Sheraton property, and then link up with the public path along the beach adjoining the golf course. An easy thing to do. Westin's rooms are very nice ... and next door to the Village. Great location for families.

Thanks for the information. We decided to book the Villas, and just spend time at the Westin's pool instead. I think the four of us would be too crowded in the smaller room, even though we won't spend much time there.

The Villas look beautiful, and the only negative was not being in the "middle of everything". We will have a car, so it is not that big of a deal if it turns out to be a hassle to walk.

I read through hundreds of reviews of both properties on TripAdvisor and other forums, and have been second guessing myself all day. My husband, on the other hand, hasn't given the decision a second thought!
