I am debating between these two resorts for a stay in mid-January. Although I prefer the Wailea location and the Wailea Elua looks very nice, I am travelling with a toddler and it does not appear that the pools at the Wailea Elua are particularly kid friendly whereas the new Westin Villas appear to have a nice kids pool and looks very nice. I would not be terribly concerned about the pool if I knew the beach at the Wailea Elua would be o.k. for a toddler. Does anyone have past experience with the beach conditions at this time of year in Wailea versus Ka'anapali? How about any suggestions about either of these two resorts. I understand that Phase 2 at the Westin is under constructions. Is there still a lot of noise? Thanks very much in advance.
Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas or Wailea Elua?

The beach at Ka`anapali has a well-deserved reputation for disappearing in the winter. In January the Wailea beaches are likely to be much calmer than those out west. Suspect that the Westin resort has much newer accommodations, facilities, though the beaches of South Kihei are smaller, crescent shaped, better.
The beaches in south Maui also retreat in the winter.
I have done a tour of the Westin timeshare villas and my husband and I thought they were gorgeous. I am not familiar with the Wailea Elua, but I can vouch for the rooms at the Westin Villas being gorgeous, as well as the grounds.
Hi -

I will be staying in Elua Village next month on my honeymoon. My Aunt and Uncle own a beachfront condo there.
I have never been but many others in my family have, and they RAVE about the place. I have also read other rave reviews about it.
It isn't going to have the amenities of big resorts - but it IS going to have the peace and quiet that large resorts don't have!
My aunt and uncle say they often lounge by the pool instead of going to the beach. We are also staying 3 nights at the Maui Hyatt.
I would be happy to post a review once I return, but most likely your plans will already have been made.
Best of luck to you!
The Westin Villas are not on the Kaanaplai beach that Lex1 describes. They are actually on the north side of Black Rock. That would be away from the beach walk and Whaler's Village. The Westin Resort and Spa is the one on the Kaanapali Beach that frequently disappears.
Kaanapali Beach that frequently disappears.
Ka'anapali Beach is NOT the only beach that undergoes a natural erosion during winter. The south beaches do too (Kamaole I, II, & III, Keawakapu etc). The beach that the Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas sits on is Kahekili Beach (also known as Airport Beach). This beach also had some heavy erosion last winter. They come back. Kahekili is a good beachpark with bathrooms and picnic tables, good for snorkeling. If I had a kid, I'd stay at the KOR, the pool is better for a kid. And the Villas are really nice!
