Western NC/ North Georgia Vacation

Hi-
Im already planning next years summer vacation. Im looking to vacation somewhere in Southwestern North Carolina and Northern Georgia in the mountains. Places ive already covered in North Carolina include the Great Smoky Mountains, Ashesville/ Biltmore Estate, Grandfather Mountain, Mount Mitchell, and Blowing Rock as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway North of Asheville. Ive been to the Smoky Mountains several times, but spent most of the time on the Gatlinburg/Tennessee side of the mountains, although I have driven over to Cherokee. And my vacation last year was to the Blowing Rock area of the NC mountains. Im thinking about staying at Highlands, NC and explore from there. I havent seen Chimney Rock, which seems like a doable day trip. Brevard seems like a cool destination as well. Along with Franklin and Cashiers. Maggie Valley up by the Smokies also sounds interesting. In Georgia, Brasstown Bald, Amicola Falls, Tallugh Gorge all sound like neat places. I have not been to Georgia before and ive heard the Georgia mountains are beautiful, so I def want to see some of North Georgia. So, for those of you who have vacationed in this area, what town would be the best base or multiple bases for this vacation? We will probably have a week for the vacation.
Thanks-

All the places you mention are within an hour of where my grandmother lived, and we spent at least two weeks with her every summer. So fifty years ago, I could have answered your question in detail. Today, no, except to say that it is still gorgeous.

You have a lot of choices of lodging, from cabins to golf condos. I would think about what kind of place I wanted to stay in at what price and then make the decision on where. None of this is very far apart, though twisty roads can make it seem that way.

Brasstown Valley is nice. Highlands is nice too. Stay at Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands.

Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa @ 6321 U.S. 76, Young Harris, GA 706 - 379 - 9900.

On second thought, id like to spend some time in North Georgia and experience the mountains there. I've stayed in Tennnesse at the Smokies and stayed at several places in the Northwestern North Carolina mountains. But, I haven't stayed in Georgia before and Georgia does have its fair share of mountains. Helan, GA sounds like it would be a really neat town to stay in. Highlands, NC sounds awesome too and the Brevard-Highlands-Franklin area south of Asheville is the only part of the NC mountains I haven't been to. Maybe I could split my trip between

Maybe I could split my trip between Georgia and NC like the Highlands Area. Two places I would like to see are kind of out of the way of the places I want to stay. I would like to see Chimney Rock in NC as well as the Catalochee section (the only part of the Smokies I haven't visited). I guess these could be day trips from my destination. I would like to def see Chimney Rock. Ive gone on several vacations and haven't been able to see it. I also wouldn't mine exploring some of the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Asheville. I've only been on the Blue Ridge Parkway north of Asheville. There's also the Choatula Skyway I've always heard about but havent explored.
