We'd like to get away for a short break/long week-end in western Connecticut. Any suggestions for a nice hotel/inn (not too cutesy) anywhere between Canaan and Fort Hill/New Milford? Can spend up to $300 per night including breakfast. We're looking for something near the routes 7/45 area. Also, suggestions for things to do? We're into walking, photog, antiquing, general loafing around. Good fresh cider anywhere?
We don't know this area at all, but have been told it's scenic and pleasnat.
Thank you!

You've chosen a very scenic area. In the Town of New Milford you have the Homestead Inn and the Heritage Inn. Up Route 202 is the Town of New Preston with its Lake Waramaug. There are several inns on the lake. The most prominent is the Boulders. Other picturesque towns are Bridgewater, Litchfield, Kent, Warren and Washington. Oh, yes-in Washington is the Mayflower Inn. Take a look at the White Hart Inn in Salisbury.

Several good hikes nearby. Their website lists them. Sheffield MA, a few miles away, has little other than antique shops.
Thanks for those suggestions. We've contacted the White Hart and a few inns on the Litchfield Hills site (a great resourcem thank you so much!) about availability. We'd like to do a little leaf peeping in western CT, I've heard it's beautiful there but without the busloads of peepers found in Vermont and New Hampshire and the Berkshires.
We'll be heading there toward the end of foliage season, but we don't need to see it at its peak to still find it beautiful.
A silly question, but are there black bears in western CT? We don't want to surprise one on our walks. Fortunately at that time of year they are fat and pretty mellow. Usually.
"re there black bears in western CT? We don't want to surprise one on our walks"
Yes there are, but you are unlikely to see one.
