Westchester County to Adirondacks and ?

Jump to last reply

We are a couple who will be traveling from Westchester County to the Adirondacks for a mid-week five day vacation in mid September. We'll have four nights away and have planned the first two at Blue Mountain Lake. We like to relax, do easy to moderate hikes, take photos of scenery, and paddle canoes or kayaks. Our first day we'll drive straight up 87 to the Adirondacks. After visiting the Blue Mountain Lake area, should we overnight in the Lake Placid area or go up to Alexander Bay to see Thousand Islands.?

Questions: does the Lake Placid area look much different than the Blue Mountain Lake area? If we go to Alexander Bay instead of Lake Placid for a night, what route would give us enough time to see that area and still head back to Westchester County stopping for the fourth night along the route to home (on our fifth day we want to drive less than 300 miles)? If we decide to tour the upper and mid Hudson River Valley on our return south, are there flood damaged towns that we should avoid? I need help planning what areas to stay in for the third and fourth nights.
