WELLINGTON OR EDISON?

We want to stay in mid-town near times square..only there for one night before a cruise in May..which of these basic hotels would you choose? Is one nicer than other? Any other suggestions appreciated. Thanks

The Wellington was completely renovated about 2 years ago. The Edison is old, and always seems a little less well kept to me.

The Edison has constantly received positive comments on this forum in the past. The EDison is closer to Times Square. It is on W.47 between Broadway and 8th Ave. The Wellington is at 55th and 7th Avenue.

I have stayed at both, with no complaints and that was pre-renovation at the Wellington. They are both traditional hotels, not fancy properties. Maybe you should choose which location is more convenient for you. The Edison has a renovated art deco style lobby and a cafe on the premises is a lot of fun for breakfast. Both are well located, safe (use common sense) and most importantly - clean!

If there are only 2 in a room, I'd bid on Priceline for a room. You'll probably get something much nicer for the same or less $$$. Read biddingfortravel.com for info on how to bid. You'd want midtown west. Check to see what other people have paid & the hotels they've gotten.

You should also check reviews on tripadvisor.com if you haven't already.
