I am attending a one day function at the convention center. Should I stay near the convention center or the Plaza area or somewhere else? Would transportation to the cc be difficult? Do I need a car in KC (I would rather not have to rent a car)? Looking to see the sites while there and I want an area that is safe to walk around. I love b & b's and nice hotels with good value. Restaurant suggestions also appreciated.

The best area for walking around is the Plaza area. The area where the convention center is located is not a good walking area. KC is not a B&B kind of city. Hotels are your best bet. You might like the Intercontinental Hotel at the Plaza. You could ask if they have a shuttle to the convention center. Taxi is other option. The airport is quite a ways out of town but Super Shuttle runs from the airport to all the major hotels.
