Dear Janet: To start with, you'll want to spend at east three days in New Orleans, strolling around the French Quarter and eating some of our marvelous food
Then you can plan to drive north and west to planta-
tion country and to the Cajun parishes around Thibodaux and Lafayette. Information on these areas (and on New Orleans itself) can be obtained at the office of the New Orleans Tourist Commission just off Jackson Square (near St. Louis Cathedral and the LaMadeleine bakery). They have lots of literature and will give you good directions. Hope you enjoy your stay. Joan

Janet,

I've enjoyed several trips to Louisiana, and a few "don't miss" things in my book are Prejean's Restaurant in Lafayette (excellent cajun food, live cajun bands playing nightly, fun atmosphere), Jungle Gardens in Avery Island (bird & wildlife sanctuary with unique and exotic fauna - a beautiful and rewarding place to spend a morning or an afternoon), Oak Alley Plantation (near Donaldsonville - there are a couple other plantations with more impressive homes - this one's no slouch - but this one has the most picturesque setting of any of the plantations; you could see this one and one/two others in the vicinity in the same day, depending on how long you spend going through the interiors). We also enjoyed a carriage ride through New Orleans at night after a scrumptious dinner at Antoine's (ask for Matthew by name and he'll make sure you get a tour of the place). There are so many other things to do, but these were the highlights of our trip. Any other questions, e-mail me.

Louisiana is a great place for a vacation. The antebellum mansions along the River Road are wonderful. I agree with the other post, Oak Alley is not to be missed. The setting is absolutely gorgeous. Others to see include Houmas House and Nottoway. I believe they have guest rooms at both of these. Another picturesque place with several mansions is St. Francisville, north of Baton Rouge. When you are in New Orleans, don't miss the Garden District, especially if you like old houses. There are some beauties in that section of town. Have a great trip.

Janet, We travel to NO about twice just to eat and relax. We seem to stay at a different place every time. We enjoyed the Omni-Royal Orleans, Maison de Ville. As far as places to eat: Napoleon's (lunch), Nola's, Commander's Palace, Emerile's,
Bayonna's, Court of Two Sisters(brunch).Have Fun!!!
