week in colorado flying in/out Denver

We are taking our first family vacation in 14 years! Two 60 year olds and our mid twenties kids, flying in and out of Denver. My son wants to see South Park locations but other than that I cannot get to scenic nature fast enough. We are arriving and departing from Denver in the evening. Can anyone suggest an itinerary by day? I'm trying to decide if it's worth just doing Denver Day one and RMNP and focus on the park/surrounding areas in depth or do east side, west side and drive south for a day or two or just save that for another trip.
If anyone has suggestions by day, I would be most grateful.

How many days? Coming from where? Can you be more specific with South Park locations? We could be more help with more info.

Since you are so vague it is a little hard to make any concise recommendations. You might start with a little research with guide books from you local library.

Access and accommodation in and around Estes Park - RMNP - could be a problem. It will be the height of the ruttish season. Roads will be crowd and very slow going. And the upper parts of the road could have snow by then and even closed but that is unlikely.

You might consider a base in Breckenridge as convenient for day trips and other activities. South Park is just south of Breckenridge over Hoosier pass. Breckenridge should be pretty cheap at that time.

You have a lot of options but it is a big state and you could spend a lot of time driving.

PS Bring jackets and shoes suitable for cool to chilly weather. And snow is always a possibility at that time in the central mountains.
