I know the weather changes constantly, but just wondering what people who live on the Cape are hearing for weather reports for next week, in particular Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. Thinking of going to Orleans next week for an overnight with my mother & sister, but we choose the days based on weather reports. Seems like the weathermen have been wrong for this week in eastern MA. It's been cool and/or rainy. Supposedly it will be in the 80's in Boston next week but cooler on the coast. How much cooler can we expect? As I said, I know the predictions can change by Sunday night, but just wondering if locals have heard any specifics yet for early next week.
Thanks.

Typically it is cooler this time of year because the water is cool. go to
www.weather.com
and put Orleans, MA into the search box and then scroll down and click on the 10 day forecast. Remember to look at what they are saying about wind and precipitation as well as temperature as that can factor into comfort too,
Hi emalloy,
Thanks for your response. I do know about weather.com but I question its accuracy. Right now they are prediciting 69 - 72 for the high temps in Orleans, which isn't beach weather. Yet it's supposed to be 88 in Boston on Wed. I do remember when we went to Barcelona in 2010 weather.com predicted rain every day of our trip, and we had beautiful sunny weather, with only one morning of rain. So I'm not sure if I trust them.
Do you live on the Cape? My daughter was there right after Memorial Day & she had great weather.
Thanks.
I live north of Boston - try accuweather.com or one of the local Boston news stations - I know WCVB (which has a website) lets you listen to the broadcast weather report and sometimes these contain info not contained in the written synopsis (like "we expect warm weather, but we are watching this or that front in Nebraska...)
Just heard on TV for the next few days that even though it will be warm away from the coast, it will be much cooler on the beaches because of the wind direction. (This wasn't for next week though.) Looking a local TV stations for weather is a good idea.
We find here in Nantucket that wunderground is MUCH more accurate than weather.com or accuweather. They have a lot of local stations reporting weather conditions where most providers are just using National Weather Service stations. They also have a marine weather forecast that is very useful if you plan to sail, fish, or particularly go offshore on a whale watch. The absolute least accurate weather is what you get on a Mac/iPad desktop. I don't know where they are getting it, but it is utterly unreliable in our situation.
The predictions here are for sunny and cool, breezy weather through Wednesday, although weather.com considers anything over 20 mph to be windy. To paraphrase Crocodile Dundee, "20 mph is not windy; 20 knots is a bit breezy!"
cw explains why Boston may be predicting 88 and the Cape in the 60's. The water temperature right now is about 60 degrees, less offshore in the Atlantic, slightly warmer in sheltered waters. Wind crossing the water from the NNE or E is bound to be cool/cold. S and SW winds will be warm. When the weather clears after rain, it almost always (yesterday was a good example) from the NW, as dry Canadian air invades.
Boston is subject to this, though to a lesser degree. I used to work on 128 in Newton Lower Falls, and the temperature was appreciably higher than when I got home to the waterfront in Boston. Several years ago, we left the waterfront at 72 for a wedding in Arlington, where it was 93. Sea breeze!
Ackislander, thanks for your detailed reply. Right now I think we will go Tuesday & Wed which seems to be the best 2 days for us. We like to go in June to celebrate my mother's & sister's birthdays. I tried several sites including wunderground, & the range of temps for Orleans is low to high 70's, but sunny (which is good) & no rain. We are going to Skaket Beach one day, which is on the bay so it is protected & warmer than the ocean. Winds predicted at SSW @ 8mph. Because of other commitments this summer, this might be the only time we can go so I hate to wait. With the way this crazy year has been so far weather-wise, who knows what July will bring?
But SSW is good.
Winds @ 8 mph is no wind at all. Look, weather forecasts for the Cape are completely unreliable. Weather differences, sometimes dramatic differences, can be seen from town to town. If it's cold or foggy in Orleans, head to the lower Cape and see how the weather is in Provincetown. Often it'll be fine. I always check Providence, RI weather predictions too when I'm looking for insight into Cape weather.
Thanks Bowsprit. That's a good point about going to another town if the weather isn't good in Orleans. You make a good point that the Cape is big & weather can & does change from town to town. I never thought of checking Providence weather, either, so thanks for that tip as well.
I appreciate everyone's advice.
Are you just visiting for the day? Bring a jacket, it gets cool near the water once the sun starts to set. Speaking of sunsets...you'll have a spectacular show if you watch the sun set on a clear evening from Rock Harbor or Skaket Beach in Orleans. The sand fleas and wind kick up once the sun sets but the experience is just awesome before those two things happen!
We are planning on staying overnight for one night. I plan on making our hotel reservations this afternoon, most likely at Skaket Beach Motel. We do plan on going to Skaket Beach for one day; we've been there many times before & enjoy it because the water is calm & warm. Hopefully, we'll get to see a sunset!
Have you stayed at Skaket Beach Motel before? Have you looked at The Cove in Orleans?
sorry, here's the link to The Cove Motel:
http://rezstream.net/guest/Search/9018/9106
This motel has waterfront rooms and is 'across the street' from The Christmas Tree Shop in Orleans.
I was on the Cape today for fishing and go out from there often this time of year. Beach weather might be iffy, sad to say. Wind is important. We had a decent northeast wind today that kept things overcast and cool, for example. We all had sweatshirts or jackets on, but when I got to my home on the South Shore I was in shorts and a tee fine.
I trust weather underground much more than weather.com... but I typically get marine forecasts from NOAA rather than land forecasts when I am on the Cape. I find them to be more helpful, and not just when I am on the boat.
Even if it is note beach weather, however, I would go for it and enjoy yourself! There is plenty of fun to be had!
And it felt like a New England day in October in Chatham today!
Hi everyone,
Yes, we have stayed at Skaket Beach Motel before & like it so I did make our reservations for Tuesday night. Price for a room with queen bed & twin bed is $121.00 which includes continental breakfast. So we have decided to "go for it" as Shandy says. As long as it's sunny we will be happy!
Bowsprit, have you stayed at the Cove Motel?
If I have a chance when we return, I'll post a very brief report.
I have housed my overflow guests at the Cove Motel. The new rooms facing the water are suites and are quite nice. Enjoy your stay and do post back! It's supposed to be warmer on Cape this week; we had a lovely weekend in Chatham and Wellfleet.
