weather in Seattle in August?

Ok, everyone who has been to
Seattle/Mt. Rainier In early August,
does it get below 60F?
I'm from Florida so below 60F is
a bit too cold for comfort.

From checking weather.com it appears
that these days the temps are in the
50s early in the day, which is too
cold for me

Also, let me know about the rain
situation this time of year. I guess
I don't want a short vacation to be
spoiled by too cold and rainy weather.
Thanks for your earlier replies.

Generally speaking, Seattle (just like most of the Pacific Northwest) experiences "wet season" and "dry season". August is the middle of the dry season, so while there's chance of rain, it's the most unlikely month to experience it.

As for temperatures, August is usually the warmest, but it's being on the coast that cools down the air considerably. Go inland a few miles and temperature rises.

Bring a sweatshirt and you'll be fine. Nobody can predict what the weather will be like, but as Robyn said, August is one of the nicer months. However, if weather really is an issue for you, then you probably shouldn't plan a trip here.

August is your best bet for warm weather in Washington. Don't expect anything above 80F. Today is July 15th and it's rainy and cool, the high for the day was about 55F. The evenings and nights are very cool here, as soon as the sun goes down you'll need a sweater. However, you'll love looking at our beautiful mountains and blue lakes. Bring a jacket and have a good time!

I live in this area, and I can say that today is WAY below 60F, and it is pouring out. The weather here is very unpredictable. August and early September seem to be the warmest though. I would say that it would be nice, but there is no guarantee just like any destination in the Pacific Northwest.

I grew up in Florida and have been in the Seattle area now for 5 years so I know you might be cold here. Our weather goes from one extreme to the next in the same day. Bring jeans and sweatshirts and a light hooded rain jacket along with summer clothes and you will be fine. It is beautiful here regardless of the weather. Only tourists carry umbrellas and locals ignore it. You are coming at typically a great time of year for sun but it sure isn't guaranteed.

I'm sitting in Seattle right now- the MAXIMUM temp. today probably won't get above 60 F. The min. last night was in the low 50's. Looking at accuweather.com I see that the current temperature at Paradis Inn (a popular Mt. Rainier location) is 41 F. with dense fog. The predicted low tonight is 34. There is a good chance that the weather at any other week in the summer (early August included ) would be much warmer. However, historically, the warmest, driest period of the year is mid to late July and if you need to rule out weather less than 60 F, then this part of the world is not a good choice for you.

Patti:

I live in Seattle (50 years now), and I do have to tell you that the unusually cold temperature this week is just that, unusual. Of course, you could end up here during another out of the ordinary week, but more likely, you will have very comfortable weather. We're having a draught here, down 8" for the year over usual rainfall. If it rains at all in August, it will be a thunderstorm of sorts, not lasting very long. Hope you come and see our beautiful city and State. After the flatness of Florida, you should love seeing all the hills and mountains.
