Weather in New Orleans at Christmas??
I'm going to be in New Orleans for a week at Christmas, and have no idea what to expect in terms of weather. Can anyone tell me what to expect for day time highs, and temps in the evening for that time of year? You'll solve my packing woes by helping me out with this!
Thanks in advance!

We spent Christmas in New Orleans two years ago. The daily highs were in the lower sixties and in the evenings temps were in the lower fifties. The sky was overcast, except one day when we had bright sunshine and the temps reached almost 70 (we used the day for a daytrip to plantation country which was an excellent idea).
BTW, we stayed at the Monteleone, and on Christmas Day (was it 11:00 or 12:00?) they performed a little play with characters in historical costumes in the lobby. Very charming!
And on Christmas Eve, there is a special concert in Preservation Hall during the afternoon - also very atmospheric, with some goodies passed around.

I think you're going to have to wait until just before your trip and check the weather forecast then. We go often in Dec and have experienced very cold (30s at night) to almost balmy (low 80s during the day). No sense in worrying about it now.

For averages go to www.weather.com
But agree with Brian. We're on the same latitude as New Orleans and the weather can be all over the place at Christmas. I've seen it snow (obviously VERY rare) and shorts/t shirt weather. It really depends on whether any cold fronts come through.

Our Christmas weather can be chilly and damp or warm and sunny. So far this fall our weather has been warm and beautiful, but the weather is unpredictable and can go either way. Hope you have a wonderful trip! Karen

Look at the picture. Of course, the pumps have drained the water out, but this goes to show you what the winter can bring in New Orleans. No, this is not a tropical system, it's just normal winter rains enhanced by El Nino:
