WDW with 2 1/2(almost)yr. old?

Any suggestions on the best place to stay with 2 1/2 yr. old. My husband and I might also bring grandma along. Looking for large room, a suite or something where we could put her(our daughter) to bed in a separate area. Which park would it be best to be close to? Have been to WDW but not with a child before so any advice would be welcome.
Thanks

The Contemporary. It is on the monorail close to Magic Kingdom which you child would enjoy the most. You, your husband, or grandma can always take her back to the room if she gets tired. I do think 2 1/2 is kind of young for Disney.

I agree with x about the COntemporary and rethinnking the trip also. You will not have a very good time at WDW with a 2 1/2 year old unless your idea of fun includes waiting in line for 20-60 minutes with a toddler, who might, just when you're at the front of the line announces she has to go potty. You should also consider if your child will be terrorized, rather than amused by the life size characters. Your daughter would probably like Seaworld or the waterparks more at this age or other age appropriate parks. I would save WDW until your child is at least 5. Its too bad Disney doesnt offer a half day ticket or something similar because than maybe WDW would be more do-able for toddlers. Good luck

Rachel, that was very sage advice about the child being terrorized by the characters. Agree with above advice. Another thing you may want to consider, Disney charges full price for children over two years of age.

Thanks for your advice. Any suggestions on where to go with a 2 1/2 yr. old. Looking for a change of scenery, maybe some warm weather. Would be flying out of NY. Thanks!

My young grandchildren like the beach. Since you were going to Florida, have you considered one of their beautiful beaches? We like the Gulf Coast but it would be cold this time of year. The Naples area is beautiful and should be warm.

A 2 1/2 year old is going to be pretty happy digging in the sand anywhere. Sanibel Island is a great beach area for families.

Interesting. My 2 year old sun loves characters and hates sand. We just got back from Disney. We stayed off property as we had a free condo to borrow for the week. He loved the character breakfast and the country bears. It's a small world was equally thrilling for him. Now, the sand. He won't let it so much as touch 1/4 of an inch of his big toe!

Here come all the Disney freaks that insist their 9 month old child not only loves Disney, but knows exactly what is going on.

Planning your next trip to Disney xxx?

I have to agree with the above post. My children at that age were nowhere near ready for the overwhelming WDW. Most toddlers I've seen at Magic Kingdom were either sleeping in their strollers or had their heads buried in their parent's shoulder.

We took our 3 year old to WDW and after she saw Mickey she looked up at us and said, "I am ready to go back to the hotel pool." In hindsight, she was not ready for WDW and did not get that much out of it. About the only thing she liked after seeing Mickey was Minnie's house and the playground in Toon Disney. We saw plenty of parents dragging their kids commando style through the park. The kids were crying and the parents were screaming. What a fun vacation.

And xxx above, you must have a weird kid or else you must be one of those parent's who don't let your kid play in the sandbox or get dirty. All kids that age love to play in sand. (Judging by your spelling, you are an airheaded idiot.)

This is the first time in about two years since I have checked out this sight. What happened? Why is everyone so nasty? Just curious. This used to be a fun place to share ideas and information.

dear lou, we now have a large group of sociopaths who are more than likely unemployed and having fun making fun of everyone's earnest questions. Fodors will only deal with those that question hotels, restaurants etc that are promoted by Fodors. Fodors used to be an independent source but apparently no longer.

That being said, we spent some time in Disney World in December and were amazed at the huge number of people with babies in strollers, many who were probably not yet on a bottle. There is no way these children were experiencing Disney. I did see many small toddlers enjoying the characters and of course those 4 and up were having a lot of fun.
