Water Park in NJ OR NYC OR MIAMI
Family of 3 with child aged 9 years are visinting USA in July 2016. We would like to spend One day at a water park. We are visint New York , Teaneck New Jersey and Florida
We are going to Walt Disney World for 6 days but only going to the Theme park for 5 days. Not goin to the water park in WDW (idea is to give a break b/w theme parks and water parks)
My question is which Water park would be the most thrilling, enjoyable and best. We love family rides, thrill rides, big slides, water splasing. Just want to spend an awesome day at the best available water park in our visiting cities

I am not aware of any water parks in NYC. I believe there is one at Great Adventure in Jersey but you will need to rent a car to get there. Also have heard of water park in Great Wold Lodge resort in the Poconos - also more than 2 hours from NYC.
I wold assume Disney to be the best but not something we do so don;t really know.

There are no water parks in NYC, though there is a big water park in Long Island, but it's not easily reachable without a car. What makes the most sense is to visit a water park when you are staying in NJ (though the ones in Orlando are much much better).
Here's an article that lays out your nearby options. I think it covers the highlights: http://bit.ly/1S7hbu8. Almost all of these are within 2 hours or less from Teaneck, but avoid anything in Long Island, which doesn't make any sense. And again, you need a car.
While Great Wolf Lodge does have a water park, it's indoors, which seems self-defeating to me in the summer (unless you are trying to avoid the sun entirely, in which case it may be your best option).

There is one in Riverhead, Long Island, near the Tanger Outlet Mall. You could cover both in one day, but a car would be the preferred mode of access. Although there is a private bus service from Manhattan (and from Brooklyn on weekends) that stops at the Tanger Mall.

If you will read the article, you will see that Hurricane Harbor in Jackson, NJ, is indeed one of the reviewed options. I'm sure there are water parks in the Miami area, but I'm not familiar with them, so I can't help you there.

You can certainly buy one-day water park tickets to both of the WDW parks and to Wet n Wild in Orlando, but Universal Orlando does not yet have its own water park. They do cross-marketing with Wet N Wild but don't own it (though they are building their own park).
