Washington DCA to Baltimore

What are my choices if I fly into DCA but I need to get to downtown Baltimore.
Cab is about $70 or higher, right?

Amtrak...I would have to take the train from the airport to Union Station and then take Amtrak, right?

Rental car is not an option..

Is there a light rail way to do this?

There is MARC train from Union Station also, but that is only during the week, I think.

You can take Metro to Greebelt (take the Yellow Line train into the city and transfer to the Green Line at any of the several stations that those two lines share) and then take a bus to BWI:

It can be done BUT not too easily. It will take time to get from Washington National to downtown Baltimore.

It would probably be easier to fly into BWI.

Hi Emily,

Cab would be at least $70 I would say. I often looked for ways from DCA to B'more when I lived not too far from Baltimore's Penn Station.

My choice ended up inevitably being... National Airport to Gallery Place/Chinatown on the yellow line metro. Red line to Union Station. MARC (Penn Line or Camden Line will do; I went usually with Penn as it tends to be faster... Camden drops you off by Orioles stadium) commuter train if weekday will get you from Union Station to downtown B'more; Amtrak is your choice on weekends.

Metro + MARC~ $1.35-$2.15 + $7
Metro + Amtrak "same" + $14 (cheapest Amtrak, prices of Metro vary based on time of travel)

It'll take at least an hour-and-a-half to do the above... incidentally, I can't think of any stage of the journey that does not have an escalator.

I've included a link to Maryland's MARC Rail system.

Best wishes, DANIEL

Depending on the times you are traveling, you may be able to avoid taking the metro all the way into DC. There is an Amtrak stop in Alexandria, VA, on the King Street metro stop only a few stops past DCA. Check the schedule on amtrak.com. The rail station code is ALX. There are trains direct to downtown Baltimore.

If the timing works out for King Street to Amtrak it also saves a transfer on the Metro to the Red Line.

Cab driver in Baltimore yesterday told me it's a set fee of $120 to taxi to DCA.

I think I will try to resolve my flight issues some other way....I was trying to avoid flying into Baltimore because of the connection times for me.
