Washington DC to Montreal; driving

Hello

Has anyone driven up the east coast from DC to Montreal (or from NYC up to Montreal, etc etc).

I imagine it's gorgeous and it sounds like either one very long day or two medium-long days.

Other than the Hudson Valley (where I have already visited and may again this time around) what other part-way points would you stop to either sleep overnight or at least visit?

Thanks

You actually could take a bit longer and do it through Vermont.

Since this will be roundtrip, we could go up one way and back another.

The return trip might or might not include a few nights in NYC itself.

A couple years ago we drove back from Montreal to DC. We took our time, but it oculd be driven in one very long day. We went through VT and made a stop in Burlington which is a nice college town. We also stopped in Hudson Valley for a few days. We are about to make our 4th trip to HV -- so much to see. Nearby, the Berkshires is really nice too. Drove through Lake George which was pretty. Have not been to Saratoga, but have heard that's a nice town.

Saratoga is a lovely town - but keep away from it when they are racing (late July through early Sept) since the place is mobbed and prices are sky high.

If you head straight up the northway you can see part of the Adirondacks/Lake Placid.

If you have the time, drive up to Quebec City from Montreal as well.

Weekdays in Saratoga are not crowded during track season (7/24 - 9/7)- especially Mon to Wed. Even Thursday is not too bad. Things get busier Fri/Sat/Sun.
