Washington DC to Columbus Ohio

What is a good half way mark between Washington DC and Columbus Ohio. We want to break up this drive and do something touristy. Anything around Morgantown, WV (looks like the halfway mark) or anywhere in PA. It doesn't have to be exactly half way. Will be traveling with kids. Thanks!

We've made this trip a couple of times and enjoy Fort Necessity, George Washington's small encampment on US 40 just north of Uniontown, PA. The battle here began the French and Indian War and also young Washington's military career. US40 is a historic road and makes a scenic detour.

Just outside Wheeling, WV we've visited the Grave Creek Indian Mound, one of the largest conical mounds which has a nice museum with it.

ATPMRP, Just curious, my mother will be taking the auto train to Washington, DC June 6 and then on to Columbus to spend the summer with us. There are several routes she could take. Which one are you taking? She is not interested in sightseeing, but getting here quickly. Thanks!

The campus at Univ. of WVa in Morgantown has a monorail and is actually a really pretty campus. The drive through Maryland and W. Va. is breathtakingly beautiful and there may be other spots to stop and walk around in the mountains.

Aliska--According to MapQuest the route suggested takes I270 out of Washington, then to I68, and lastly catching I70 into Columbus. Is this a faster way or are the other routes faster? I am not from around there, so I am relying on Mapquest to give me the best route.

Hi Mike T.--Where does the monorail go to? Does it circle the campus?

Thanks
