Washington DC-- reservations for????
Arriving in DC 4/18 until 4/21. Didn't get the White House tour requested and want to see the obvious main attraction, staying in Dupont Circle area. Do I need reservations for anything in particular or does everyone just wait in line? Thanks

Hello,
The White House tour usually needs to be requested a minimum of 6 weeks in advance but reservation requests are accepted 6 months in advance. You need to have a group of 10 or more too. They will pair you with other people if you do not meet the 10 person requirement.
There is a service that will allow you to make reservations for certain things like the Washington Monument but they charge a fee plus shipping and handling. To me it is not worth it. You can walk right to most of the major Memorials on the Mall. The timed entry tickets for the Washington Monument repeatedly “sell out” so try to get there early in the morning to get a ticket. If you are unable to get a ticket try going to the Old Post Office Pavilion for a good birds eye view of Washington DC. As for the rest of the attractions such as the Smithsonian Museums you will have to wait in line but they usally go quick.
Have a great trip!

It has been a few years since I visited the Smithsonian museums in peak season, but I don't think there are any tickets to stand in line for. Unless there's a special exhibit that requires timed tickets, you can just walk in to Air & Space, Natural History, the Castle, National Gallery, etc. Or has this changed?

For the Capitol and the Holocaust Museum you need timed tickets. Both can be done online, but I don't know about Will Call windows; we orderd in time to have them mailed to our home. You don't need timed tickets for the Smithsonian, but the National Archives will require a wait. The Bureau of Pringing and Engraving require timed tickets, too.
You can get up early when the offices open and take your chance for tickets for later in the day.
The oneline service do charge a minimal fee, but for a family of 4 it wound up being something like $7. We paid that instead of getting in line at 8 am for tickets later in the day.

I went in Feb. Was told to get the ones just mentioned at Wsh. Monument and Holocaust Mus. I didn't.
Was so glad I didn't because they were both walk ups. And when I asked I was told that the only ones at Was. Monu. that have been sell outs in over a year have been the morning times- until 11 or 11:30.
If you are going in April, it isn't summer yet, and I bet you will want to do them when you get there instead having to plan "time" around it. I would anyway.
