I'm traveling to Warwick, RI at the end of June and staying for a few days. I'm trying to find a hotel that is closer to a downtown area since I don't drive (long story about not driving)and I would really like to be able to walk around. All I'm finding are hotels that are close to the airport, but those would require me to either drive or get a cab every time I want to go somewhere. Does anyone have any suggestions that would be good for a non-driver (affordable too please since I'm on a budget)? Thanks!
Warwick, RI

I guess I didn't realize that there WAS anything in Warwick besides the Providence airport (sorry).
Try the Warwick Chamber of Commerce for help - http://www.centralrichamber.com/directory.htm
I don't remember Warwick having a nice walking-around downtown, but it has been a while.
It seems to me that you have a few choices:
1. Stay in Downtown Providence. You can get there by shuttle or bus. There are nice shops and restaurants downtown and on the Eastside near Brown University. You will have public transportation options there. I know there is a Courtyard by Marriott which may be reasonably priced.
2. Take the Cozy Cab shuttle to Newport, RI. This is a great walking town. The problem here would be finding budget lodging in the pedestrian friendly area.
3. Take a cab to Wickford Village and stay in one of the bed and breakfasts there. www.wickfordvillage.org
Ground transportation options from the TF Green airport in Warwick can be found at: www.pvdairport.com/main.aspx?sec_id=59
Good Luck!
I second the suggestion of staying in Providence. There isn't much to see/do in Warwick and you would certainly need a car. Providence is a walkable city with great restaurants and things to do/see.
Yeah, I got the impression that Warwick isn't pedestrian friendly, so I've decided to stay in Providence. I know there is a Marriott in Providence. Can anyone recommend other reasonably priced hotels in the Providence area?
I recently stayed at the Hilton in Providence. It was paid for by my employer so I don't recall the cost, but I believe it was somewhere in the $150 night range. It was a very nice hotel, with newly renovated rooms. There is nothing in Warwick, don't stay there.
Why are you in Warwick? If you don't have a car and is staying in Providence, then how are you going to get to whatever place you need to be in Warwick?
Just trying to figure out exactly what your needs are.
I was originally going to stay in Providence, but a friend of mine said to stay in Warwick (it's closer to where he lives), but after researching it, I told him I would prefer to stay in Providence. Staying at his place is not an option.
Yes, stay in Providence then. The Courtyard by Marriott, as mentioned by lvk, is the best located. It should be reasonably priced.
In addition to the Marriott and the Courtyard Marriott, there are several hotels in the downtown area but since I live in the area I haven't stayed in them and am not sure of their current rates, but you may want to look into them.
Renaissance Providence - brand new and I think they are taking reservations now
Providence Hilton - this was a Holiday Inn that they have completely renovated
Westin Providence - across from the Courtyard and the Mall
Providence Biltmore
Hotel Providence - I don't think this will fall in the reasonable range but you never know
