WARNING : Be Careful of I 95-We ended up in Philadelphia
Something has changed on I95 North out of Maryland. I have never been confused before but we came to MD via nj tpke (I95).Driving home we followed I95 signs and ended up driving through the worst &$#@ place in the whole world-Philly. You can't ask directions for practically the whole length of 95 in this area. Later you are directed to go north on 295 south to get to 95 north which I thought i was already on. The people or things who set these signs up should be given more drugs and alcohol just to finish the job. Unbelievable.

If I didn't know better, I'd think my brother-in-law wrote this post. He's the type who never reads a map and then curses his fate when he ends up on the wrong road.
If you're not careful, you'll have the same problem with any number of cities -- Jacksonville, for instance -- where the highway goes through the city and you should take a bypass. The lesson: RAFM.

Hey, I was cursing I-95 when I tried to drive it last month. It's not a matter of reading a map, but memorizing it. There are no visible landmarks, few places to pull off and read a map, and the exits have to be 10 miles apart. It's not a place to drive without a navigator in the front seat.

I agree with you. I live on the other side of PA, which is the 2nd biggest city in PA and there is major construction here. If you did not live in this area, I can image how easily lost you could become. Most of the maps I know are useless because there is new construction on a daily basis.
To the Philly person:
Getting lost in Philadelphia is the worst nightmare that can happen to you. The city is so spread out with multi-lane traffic in all directions. A newcomer would bound to be lost if they don't travel in a city everyday.

Your post is confusing. You don't say where you wanted to go and at what point you got lost. I have driven I95 many times, and I suspect that you simply weren't watching.
What was wrong with driving through Philly? You don't have to get off the highway.
The highway signs of any place can be confusing the first time. I hope you study the map next time.

humblejohn, I really don't know what is so confusing. I live in Maryland and travel back to NJ to visit my family via the turnpike all the time. As long as I can remember, there have been signs directing drivers either to I-95/495 towards Philadelphia or to the turnpike. The turnpike is not I-95 and never has been. Nothing has changed. If you pay attention, it is really quite simple.

Drove this route today and decided to see how confusing it would be to make the change to Philly by mistake. I saw FOUR impossible to miss signs telling you where to veer off to go to "I-295 NJT NJ NY"; while the way HumbleJohn took clearly states "I-95 Wilmington Philadelphia" I wanted to give HJ the benefit of a doubt, thinking it just MIGHT be confusing. But it isn't. He didn't read a map and didn't follow the VERY clear road signs (four of them), and now complains about being unable to do either.
The NJT becomes I-95 north of Trenton, as HJ was correctly pointed out. But I-95 has gone through Philly as LEAST as long ago as 1983 (I have an atlas from that year). So perhaps something HAS changed; but it isn't the highway.
It isn't the road sign people that are on drugs -- they have done their job quite well. All you have to do is read the signs they've put up.

Another poster was quite on target when they stated that the original poster was basically saying" I am not willing to accept responsiblity for my actions and need to blame someone else". I believe the word used was "idiot" as the previous poster stated the road is clearly marked...
