My husband and I planned to take our 2 year old to Sanibel Island in March for a week, but decided against it because it was so expensive (and at this point, really hard to find accommodations!). In any case, we are now looking for suggestions for a warm holiday in the US in March. We are thinking a beach and a swimming pool would be great... but a little character would be nice (hence Sanibel... boo hoo).

Any ideas?

Cost per night for hotel ideally $150-200.

I visit my brother in West Palm Beach area almost every winter and have found that if you are willing to stay a little inland - near I95 - prices drop greatly. I might go to I95exitguide.com and check on hotels listed at various points on I95. Hotels are always nice, often fairly new as growth in that part of Florida has more recently spread further inland. They always have a pool and although you have to drive to beach, price makes it worth it.

March this year is tougher than usual - Easter is 3rd weekend and the week on either side is a popular school vacation week.

I just saw the week of March 23 for $999 @ Marriott Ocean Pointe.(South Florida, Palm Beach Shores/Singer Island/West Palm). Beautiful beach, 3 pools plus a "kids' pool" and play area for your 2 yo.

I stayed here in November and thought it was a good value. It is right on the beach. Can't say there was much character.
