Want to know best area attraction around Newport RI
Two ladies attending convention In Newport RI May 7-10. We have 3 extra days to explore the surrounding areas. Should we drive up the Maine Coast. Go to Cape Cod? or Marthas Vineyard? Nantucket? Block Island? With the alloted time what are the best places? Where to go, stay and eat? Never been to East Coast before. Please advise!

well, I would be inclined to say visit Boston. It depends a bit on your interests. But Boston in the Spring is beautiful, if it doesn't rain too much. You can visit the museums, walk in the common, maybe take in a Pops concert, Red Sox game or a harbor cruise. Take a day trip out to Lexington or Concord.
two important questions... what are your interests, and will you have a car?

I second the suggestion for Boston. I went there for my first time last October and loved it, along with Lexington and Concord. We also spent a couple of days on Martha's Vineyard which I enjoyed immensely. I intend to go back this summer to both places - one week just wasn't long enough! We spent a few days in Newport, too, which is no slouch. You'll have a wonderful time in that area wherever you spend your time.

Judy and Beth, Thank You for your posts. We have decided to go to Marthas Vineyard. Since you live in the area, could you please tell me how long it would take to drive from newport to Woods hole on a friday May 12 so we could catch a ferry. It would really help with our planning. Thanks
