I am looking at going in June 2013 either to Walt Disney World or a Disney Cruise on the Dream to the Bahamas. We are in our late 30's and have 2 children, at that time they will be 8 and 12 (both girls).
We are really interested in princesses, are they on the ship?
Which one do you think? All feedback is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

How long do you want your vacation to be? The Dream cruises are 3 or 4 nights. You could combine the 2 if cost isn't a factor. I find the Disney cruises to be overpriced for what you get.
I am however, a true fan of WDW. We go every fall break and still find lots to see and do. I think for Princess action WDW would be better. The cruises seem to have more of the costumed characters a la Mickey/Minnie/etc.
Check out www.disboards.com for lots of information overload on both types of vacation.
The princesses are definitely on the ships, and I think they are more accessible than at WDW. On the ships there are certain times (published in the daily newsletter once you are on the ship) that the characters will be available for photos and autographs. The lines are long, but manageable. Plus, they make sure that the times will not interfere with your in-port activities. We were on the Dream in November and happened upon Sleeping Beauty in a hallway one evening near the kids club. She spent a good 5 minutes interacting with my kids (DD10 and DS8) and there was no one else around. It was magical.
As the above poster mentioned, there are many sites you could spend hours on discovering the differences.
In the parks the princesses are photo-accessible if you get a meal with them (make reservations 6 mos ahead). Otherwise, they are nowhere to be seen. This is supposed to change when the new parts of Fantasyland open and there is a princess character meet & greet area.
Aside from that one issue, the two trips are quite different. We are Disney fanatics, and I could hold forth here for paragraphs. But I won't.
Here are a few points to consider:
- Depending on what time in June you will go, WDW can be very crowded. Check the Touring Plans crowd calendar. It will be well worth your $10 fee. Most Disney cruises are near-capacity, but not as crowded as the parks.
- If you want rides and shows, the parks are for you. If you want a lower-key Disney flavored trip to the beach, the cruise is for you.
- You can do both - they do a nice land/sea combo package.
Enjoy!
It really depends what you are looking for - a jam packed trip in amusement parks or relaxing cruise with Disney themed activities. We have done both several times, and I recommend the combo as well and taking the short cruise after visiting the parks, but if you can only do one, think what you really want out of the vacation. You can get the Disney Magic on the cruises, and I think they are worth every penny and give good bang for your buck, their customer service is impeccable and the food is phenomenal. Of course you will get the same luxury feeling when you stay at some of the nicer WDW resorts like the Yacht Club, or Broadwalk.
