Walking in Washington, DC

Following the thread on Manhattan walks, I wondered, does anyone know of a source for good walks in DC? We've been in many of the neighborhoods, but don't always get off the main streets - Woodley Park, Dupont Circle, U-Street Corridor, Adams-Morgan, Kalorama Heights, the Mall of course, etc. It would be nice to have some actual information on the places we're walking anyway!

I realized I should clarify - I'm looking only for self-guided walks. Thanks.

Look in your local bookstore or on Amazon for a series called 'City Walks DC' (or wherever). This is a very portable 'deck' of 50 neighborhood walking tours for cities across the US and Europe. I've used the ones for Paris -- in fact, took my set on our last trip and found a set in the apartment we rented -- and I've given my brother, who lives in DC, the ones for there. They are very fun guides, and will take you through lots of off-the-beaten path areas. Each card includes a beginning and end point accessibile from public transportation, points of interest, historic background, shops and restaurants.

Look at www.mapeasy.com. The sets are $15 each.
