Waimea Canyon- Kauai
For any Waimea Canyon experts: do you think it is better to view the canyon late afternoon (4/5pm) or in early morning (6/7am)? I had read it is better to see it either at the end of the day or the start of the day due to more dramtic lighting, but is late day any better than early morning? Thanks.

Aloha from Kaua`i!
As our daytime temperatures rise, the heat pulls in any surrounding clouds -- which is why our mountain tops are usually cloud-covered by noon time.
So head for Waimea Canyon early. No guarantee that it will be clear..but the odds will be in your favor.

Yah pays yer money-yah takes yer chances when it comes to that big hole.
I'd rather have some clouds in play tho.
It makes the lighting do some wonderful things.
You can always plan a "West Side" day and go to the Canyon and then the Lookout and maybe even out to Polihale so you can take another run back up the hill on the way back in, in case the first try was cloudy.
Alohaaa Auntie M.

I prefer afternoons. We often go up there for sunset. Having stayed up there a lot, weather conditions don't seem to really depend on time of day as much as prevailing winds.
