Waikiki Dining
My husband and I have one night on Oahu in Waikiki. We are looking for a moderately priced restaurant, preferrably with an ocean view. We also like sushi.

My husband and I just returned and we had dinner at Tikis (sp?) it is on the upper level of one of the Aston hotels. If you make a reservation you can sit on the balcony overlooking the ocean. It is very reasonably priced and the food is fabulous. Esp. the fresh fish!!!

Tiki's just won the daily newspaper's award for Best New Restaurant. It may not have sushi, though; nevertheless, there are some wonderful fish dishes.
As an added bonus, you may encounter Cymri, their effervescent hostess!

I went to both Dukes and Tikis and I definitly preferred Tikis over Dukes. Interestingly, the people who own Tikis used to be involved with Dukes and most of the people who work at Tikis are from Dukes. I think that the management split but not sure of the details.

My family enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Duke's. Everything from the freshly made caesar salad, to lobster to drinks and desserts, were first class. Doesn't hurt that celebs, like Jimmy Buffet pop by now and then. Fun and festive. We are planning to return, and will have reservations before.

Dukes was fine, we didn't try Tiki's. I would stop by the Halekulani's House Without a Key lounge for a drink before or after dinner. They have music and hula right on the ocean and the best tropical drinks I've ever had for about $8 (worth every penny). This was one of our favorite experiences on Oahu. So relaxing.....

Our best meal in Oahu was at Roy's - great raw tuna dish. The view was not on the ocean, but the food and drinks were fantastic. Duke's has the best mai tai in Hawaii -(and we tried them all) - call a few weeks ahead for reservations and ask to be seated along the rail for a view of the surfers on the beach. They have a trio that sings to each table - lots of fun!

Just a footnote to some of the postings above:
Of the Japanese restaurants, none have an ocean view and only Kyoya is in Waikiki.
Roy's is some distance from Waikiki and may not be regarded as moderately-priced.

True about Roy's. Quite a distance and not moderately priced, but for those who have ate there will find it worth the drive.
If you like pasta and want a view, try Sarento's. It's located at the top of the Ilikai.

John Dominis is excellent, but as noted, not moderately priced. Dinner for two (salad, entree, glass of wine, desert, coffee) will easily run $125+ with tax/tip. Get a window table for about 1/2 hour before sunset. Great views of surf with Diamondhead in distance.
