VRBO-Anyone ever booked a condo with them?

Am considering booking a condo in Maui through the owner I found on vrbo.com Has anyone ever done this and what was your experience? I have seen pictures of the place but am still a little nervous. Would appreciate any comments on booking through owner vs. travel agent.

Yes, we had no trouble at all in Kauai. The owner was very responsible. He sent us the keys, info, etc. No trouble, no problems. I would recommend it from our own experience. Judy

I own a rental condo on Maui and my advice would be to check out the website of the condo you are thinking of renting to get a look at the unit and then to e-mail the owner and get answers to your questions and then to call and speak with the owner. Another thing to do would be to call the office of the property and check out that the person who is renting the unit is the owner.

Thanks Gale, good advice. I have looked at the website and e-mailed my questions. My questions were answered quickly and to my satisfaction, but I think I will take your advice and call the property too, just in case.

We rented a cottage on a golf course in Kaanapali at Christmas and loved it. However, when I was looking into it, I was advised from this site to speak to the owner by phone to get a "feel" for the person and the place. I did this, and felt much better after speaking to them. Our cottage was outfitted to the hilt. There was nothing that we wanted that it didn't have. We have also rented two other times privately from the owner, but those places were not through vrbo. We still had great places.
